History

One of the earliest branches of the B S A C, No 11, was formed here in Great Yarmouth by a small group of pioneering enthusiasts in 1954. Recreational diving was a very new sport and, as there were no others in the region, headquarters granted it the title of East Anglian branch. It later became customary to name branches after their home city or town. The Sport became better known and the B S A C flourished becoming the recognised body governing sport diving in the UK. To be more central in its catchment area. No 11 branch moved to Norwich where it remains to this day. By 1975 it had enough members in the Great Yarmouth area to form a new offshoot, No 767 - again offering a very high standard of training in a system, which is, respected worldwide. Naturally, in nearly half a century the equipment has evolved in many ways. Advances in technology have led to the development of high performance self-contained underwater breathing apparatus and even gas mixtures which enable us to dive deeper, longer and more safely. We have suits that keep us warm and dry and a huge variety of ancillary equipment widely available in all sizes and colours to suit all pockets.

Training

Exhilarating, exciting, fun, serious, cautious, nervous, and satisfying, these are just some the emotions you will experience when you begin scuba diving training. Your strongest emotions however will be one of achievement - once you have qualified. Then all manner of  things are accessible to you from a sport which offers you the insight into another world full of shipwrecks, coral reefs, and marine life.

Your training will consist of the correct use of scuba equipment, techniques and skills to enable you to dive safely, with the emphasis on self-help in the unlikely event of any problems underwater. Although this may seem like a hostile environment, armed with the intensive training and comprehensive theory, scuba diving is a very safe sport which you can enjoy at home or abroad with your new found buddies at the Great Yarmouth branch of the British Sub Aqua Club
