During the total solar eclipse of 11 August 1999 the
Lands End team were concerned that access to the cliffs around our area would
be difficult due to the massive influx of visitors from all over europe, most
of them in vehicles of one sort or another, jamming our very narrow roads.
This
problem was solved by keen riders Bev Hicks, Rachel Reynolds and Chris Hale...................horse
patrols!!
The
intrepid trio gave up the comfort of the rescue vehicle for 3 1 horse power,
four legged systems of rapid crosscountry transport, Trigger, Merlin and Harry.
The
horses were equipped with reflective lightweight underblankets and were an instant
hit with locals and visitors alike.
