What is Royal Rangers?

It has been said that a person never stands quite so tall as when they stoop to help a child. That is the aim of Royal Rangers, working with parents and educators to help to develop the whole child, Mentally, Socially, Physically & Spiritually.

Although many people will never have heard of us, we are part of a non profit making international children's ministry of the Assemblies of God Pentecostal Churches of Great Britain & Ireland, that was established in 1961, In The United States of America and now spans over 50 countries around the world.

There are currently 38 Outposts in the United Kingdom, with the largest number of those being located throughout the North West region. The first officially chartered Royal Ranger outpost in the United Kingdom was established in Briton Ferry, Glamorgan in 1976.

Royal Ranger Outpost: England 51 has now been established for over six years. Based at Pendle Community Church - formerly Living Waters Christian Centre - we have seen many children come through our doors.

We are a uniformed voluntary youth organisation, registered with Lancashire County Council's Youth and Community Services, catering for children aged between 3 & 17 years, originally based on the North American Scout Association model, but now using a specially designed British Royal Ranger syllabus, which provides challenging environments and situations where the child can learn to develop and interact with other children of similar age and pursue positive role models and lifestyle choices.

We actively encourage the children to participate in camp-outs, community events and outings. As we are first and foremost a ministry of the church, Bible teaching & Christian living are also emphasised.

Meet the Commanders

The Youth Leaders who give of their time freely in Royal Rangers are called commanders. All commanders must agree to complete the Royal Ranger Leadership Training Course and sign & agree to abide by the National Royal Rangers Child Protection Policy.
In addition to commanders in some outposts there are also Lieutenant Commanders. Lieutenants do not have responsibility for an age group but assist where required.

The current leadership team at Royal Ranger Outpost: England 51 is as follows.

Senior Commander Barbara Diorio.
Barbara is the lady that everyone likes to call mom. She and her husband Paul (our minister) came to us from Connecticut in the USA, although Barbara is originally from Wisconsin. Being American she is able to bring that little something special to the groups that she teaches. Barbara also leads the Junior Sunday School. She works for Burnley Health Care NHS Trust.

Outpost Chaplain Duncan Seed.
Duncan has the responsibility for ensuring the spiritual health of the outpost and its members. Duncan is a key member of the church's leadership team. He currently works as a Manager for a major computer manufacturer. Duncan is well used to being around children as he and his wife Amanda have four of their own.

Commander Stu Precious. aide-de-camp.
In addition to his responsibilities of assisting Barbara, Stu is also a teacher in the church's Junior Sunday School. He is a professionally trained communicator, and facilitator, Stu works as a Reservations Consultant for the country's largest holiday
hire-boat agency.

Commander Heather Precious.
Heather is Married to Stu and they have one six year old daughter, Hannah. In addition to her duties as Rainbow Commander, Heather is our Press & Publicity Officer. Heather is well qualified to lead the Rainbows having  passed with distinction her Introduction to Pre-school Practice. She works as a Sales Assistant in a local pharmacy.

Training Chief Ron Whalley.
Ron is our Training & Camping Consultant. He has qualified to such a level within Royal Rangers that he is now able to train other commanders. In addition to his qualifications within the organisation he is an active member of The St. John's Ambulance Association and is currently taking a mountaineering course. Ron works for a local engineering firm.

Child Protection Policy

In this day and age it is important for parents to be sure that the clubs and societies that their children attend are safe. It is for this reason that  all outpost group commanders carry a valid first aid certificate. In addition to this Royal Rangers in the United Kingdom operate a child protection policy. Royal Ranger Outpost: England 51 is proud to endorse this policy. All the commanders have signed this policy and agree to be bound by it's terms and conditions.

Respect for Existing Beliefs

Although Royal Rangers is a ministry of the wider body of the Christian church, and Bible teaching and related subjects will be covered, on no occasion will an officer of the organisation impose their own opinions or beliefs upon a child, but will simply deliver the facts contained within the Bible and allow the child to make their own decisions.
