The word chakra is Sanskrit (a classic religious language of India) for wheel or disk and signifies one of seven basic energy centres in the body. Their use in psychic development is common with many teaching mediums. As most of our intuitive and mediumship skills rely on our ability to sense subtle energy flows, it therefore makes sense to start by understanding our own energy centres and the energy that runs through them.

For the purpose of development, we need to appreciate the different levels or frequencies that spirit operate on. In order to improve our communication skills we need to raise our own frequencies or vibrations as they often referred to. As each of our own chakra energy centres operate at different frequencies/vibrations they are ideally suited to helping us learn this technique. The base chakra, for example, is the slowest, or if you prefer, more closer to our Earth and body. While the 7th chakra, situated at the crown, is of a much higher frequency and vibration, and closer to those of spirit. With practice, it’s possible to sense and actually feel these chakra energy centres, and this is how we begin to appreciate that all things are composed of energy. With a little more practice, we can energise and clean our Chakras, leading to improved health, which represents our first steps in controlling energy rather than matter.

Once we comprehend the flow of energy, we need only accept that thought is energy, an energy that can also be transmitted by our friends in Spirit. But, and there’s always a ‘but’ isn’t there, this energy can often be very subtle. So understanding and working with the Chakras can help us recognise these subtle energies. Or in other words helps us to hear spirit.

Of course there is much more to the Chakras, many mediums and psychics will talk of reading someone’s Chakras. Unlike the Aura, our Chakra colours remain constant, but their brightness and condition varies with our state of health. If we understand the relation of each Chakra to our body and emotional state, then we can easily see where we need to put things right.

Base: this is located at the base of the spine, and is where we store our base energy. It opens downwards so that the flow of energy is from the feet chakra up towards the crown of the head, and vibrates to the colour red.

Sacral: this is situated about two inches below the naval, and vibrates to the colour orange. Energy flows front to back

Solar plexus: this is situated a couple of inches above the naval, just below the diaphragm, and vibrates to the colour yellow. Energy flows front to back.

Heart: this is situated in the centre of the chest (not on the left hand side over the heart) and vibrates mainly to the colour green, although it will also have pink, gold and white. Energy flows front to back

Throat: this is situated at the base of the neck, its centre being in the dip of the collar bone, and vibrates to the colour light (summer sky) blue. Energy flows front to back.

Brow: this is situated on the forehead between the eyebrows, and vibrates to the colour indigo (dark blue of the night sky before it turns black). Energy flows front to back.

Crown: this is located at the top of your head and vibrates to the colour violet. However, when you see/sense/feel it, you may find many different colours in it as each one represents you, the lessons you have learned, the personality you have, your spiritual development. It opens upwards so that energy flow is downward from spirit.
