Are
ghosts real? |
Introduction
Just ghost stories?
The subject of ghosts has fascinated people for hundreds of years, as it still does today. In fact various organisations have appeared to investigate the phenomena. Except for a small minority, most people are willing to accept that there are some things beyond our comprehension. But is this acceptance born of fear or respect for those that have passed over?
Until there is ultimate proof of this particular phenomena, opinions will naturally be divided. Psychics and Mediums generally believe that when we die, we pass onto another plane of existence. Rather than looking skyward into heaven, they believe that spirit people live in a world not far away from our own. Its often described as being of a different vibration to our world, existing all around us, yet just out of reach. It is this closeness that allows our two worlds or existences to co-exist and which may help explain the phenomena.
If we pursue these thoughts, we begin to further understand how mediums are able to make contact with spirit people. If the spirit world is close by, then all we need is the 'key' to communicate. If a medium can attune to the higher vibrations of the spirit world, then contact becomes possible. But because spirit people exist on a much higher vibration, they must also tune down to our level. In effect, a joint effort is required for successful communication.
Can we see them?
Or do I need to be psychic?If spirit people can tune their thoughts down to our level, then we must suppose that with more effort they can also produce an image of themselves. If those in spirit are, as we understand them, made of energy and thought, then perhaps it becomes a little easier to suppose that they can manipulate this energy, by thought, to re-create the image of themselves we recognise. Most mediums believe that a lot of effort or energy is required for this to take place.
This could help explain the accounts of passed relatives appearing to their loved ones when they are in danger, helping to prevent a tragedy. The desire and urgency of the spirit person to get the warning across allows a visual representation to be seen. Remembering that the physical body has ended we must also conclude this appearance is a manifestation of thought power.
Spirit Energy Orbs
Spirit in their true form?
In recent years spirit energy orbs have been seen more regularly. These globes have been described and even photographed as being of different colours and sizes while seemingly just hanging in mid air.
If this seems difficult to take in, remember spirit are energy, having left behind their physical bodies. When a medium makes contact they will be able to describe the previous physical appearance of the spirit communicator. It is commonly believed that spirit re-create this appearance so that they can be recognised by those they left behind, making the process even more involved than we first thought.
If these orbs represent a truer appearance of our spirit friends why would they then choose to display themselves in a manner which we do not recognise. We can only surmise, but if we consider our growing acceptance of spiritual matters then perhaps this is the modern equivalent of our ghost. You can view a photo of a spirit orb in our Gallery.
Hauntings
Or is there another explanation?This brings us to perhaps the most interesting part of the ghost subject, that of hauntings. Once again adopting the view of our psychics and mediums, there is also a belief that buildings and places can be haunted not by the actual presence of a ghost but by the echo of it's past resident. An imprint of that persons personality, (see also Psychometry section), which would explain why some places have an atmosphere. But hauntings could of course be caused by an actual presence of a spirit.
It is also believed that some people who pass into the spirit domain are not ready to accept the progression, and prefer to remain around the world they knew, or at least return to it from time to time. Is this why, when aided by a medium, some hauntings stop? The spirit person having been helped to move on and progress. If the desire to stay around the things they knew in life is that great, it could be that our sightings of them are purely unintentional.
Poltergeists
Troublesome spirits?Poltergeist - another word that is closely related to our subject of Ghosts, but what does it mean? The word actually comes from the German language and when translated means:- 'noisy spirit'.
It seems we have yet to prove, beyond all doubt, at least to some people, that ghosts exist. But sightings and strange occurrences continue to happen and the popularity of investigation and research goes on..
