Summary:  Voldemort begins his raise to power. This series now gets darker from here on in.

In the great hall, Hagrid continued a roll call of the students, several students, including Harry were missing.  As each student's name was called out, they answered and left the hall and went to their dormitory.

One such person was Hermione, who crawled into bed.  After Willow had introduced herself to the school, she had ordered the girl to get some sleep.  She felt Crookshanks  jumped on the bed and the cat settled down at the bottom of the bed.  The dragons where perched around the room.  This was the Apprentice's room.  Her bed was big enough for five people to sleep in.

The candles dimmed and their flames died.

Hermione fell to sleep.

The next thing she knew someone had got into her bed and was snuggling up to her.  Hermione opened a mind link to her cat.  Ginny Weasley was snuggling up to her.

"Ginny."  She spoke.  "What's a matter?"

"Couldn't sleep."  The younger girl yawned, then promptly fell a sleep.

Hermione sighed had a yawn and was about to fall back to sleep when someone else entered the room.  She made out who it was. "Pansy?"  She sighed.

"I'm lonely."  The witch replied.  "I'll go. Sorry"  She made for the door

"Come here, I've got lots of room."  Hermione replied, she patted the spare next to her.

Ginny made soft snoring sounds in her sleep and Crookshanks stretched out and settled back down.

Willow and Hagrid went over the names of the missing students.  "Several of these students have either join the other side or are being forced to work for them."

"You mean the 20 missing from the Slytherin house."  The half giant asked

"Yes,"  Willow nodded.  "I saw a few of them working with the Death eaters.  While I was guiding the others out."

Part 2

Voldemort looked out proud of the sight and smell of death.  "Tell me again what happened."  He commanded.

"I sensed something wasn't right. An unknown power moving though the castle." Draco spoke.  "It then disappeared.  I went to the area I sensed it last."

"Then they escaped."  Voldemort finished.  "If you sense Miss Rosenberg again, you inform me at once in future."

"Yes, sir"  Draco replied.  Inside, he was some what grateful that Voldemort was not punishing his failure. His master walked past him.

Hogwarts was very quiet, a few centaurs and elves were standing guard.  Willow waved her hand over Fawkes freeing the phoenix from the flesh to stone's potion effects.

The bird stretched it's wings and seemed to study the redhead.

"Poor thing." Willow whispered.  "Your master is still in Voldemort's hands.  Do you know what he was reading?"

The phoenix hopped onto the table and tapped a book with wing.

Willow picked up the book.  "The Prophecy's of the Shadow World."  She read out loud.  "I think, I should read this in the morning."  She yawned.  "Do you want to come with me or stay here?"

The phoenix flew onto her shoulder.

The night passed without any emergencies.

The sun's early rays crawled over Hermione's bed.  Crookshanks purred and moved up the bed, stepping on the sleeping girls.

It purred loudly into Hermione's ear.

"Just ten more minutes."  The young witch muttered.

The cat seemed to think for a moment.  Then pawed it's mistresses nose.  She woke up.  "Let go of my nose."  She looked the cat straight in the eyes.

The cat released her nose and began licking her face.

"What's got into you?"  Hermione lifted the cat up.

Crookshanks purred, it's tail caught the end of Pansy's noise.  This woke the other girl up with a sneeze.  Ginny woke with a start and fell out of the bed.  Laughter filled the air.

Part 3

Willow stood outside the door to her apprentice's room.  She had woken after only a few hours sleep. Dobby had fetched the Sorting Hat to her.  The hat then produced two sets of robes saying.  "The two girls having a sleep over in the apprentice's room are her chosen companions.  These robes are belong to them."

"Enjoy girls,  soon there will be only blood and pain."  She spoke softly and closed her eyes.  "The war is only just starting."  She wave a hand over the two sets of robes she was carrying.

Willow made her way to the great hall.  She caught sight of Ethan Rayne charming a young female elf.  "Rayne."  She barked walking over.

"Ah, Willow,"  He spoke rubbing his hands.

"Morning, Ethan how good are you at ancient pre Latin languages?"  She asked with a grin.

"I have some knowledge."  He replied, hoping he had not upset the powerful witch in front of him.

"Good.  I have need of such skills." She spoke in a serious tone.

"You want me to translate a text, so what's in it for me?"  The rogue wizard asked, wondering if he could make a quick buck.

"Well, since ground's of the school are protected and you asked for protection consider this payback."  The redhead replied.

Hermione emerged from her private bathroom, to find that Ginny and Pansy were dressed in different robes than the normal school ones.  "Nice robes."  She spoke wondering what was going off.

"We found them against the door."  Ginny spoke, knowing that Hermione would soon ask them, were they got them.

Pansy then spoke.  "We appear to be your companions."

"My what?"  The Apprentice of Hogwarts asked.

"Your companions."  The older of the two girls before Hermione replied.  "According to the Sorting Hat that is."

Arthur Weasley had just called his wife, and told her to get to Hogwarts Castle.  He destroyed the last Top Secret document in his office.  The building shook, then there was the sounds of explosions.  The battle for the Ministry of Magic had began.  The difference this time, it was an open attack.  Not like before this time it was for total control.

The older Malfoy smiled behind his mask, as the defenders around the building began to retreat.

"Let them flee."  Voldemort spoke.  "They will take tales to others of my victory and the end of the Ministry of Magic."

"My Lord,"  The Death eater spoke.  "I see you mean to demoralize any resistance.  There is still the problem of Hogwarts."

"All in good time."  The dark wizard grinned.  "The Lady of Hogwarts, knows she's no match for me.  She can not directly face me.  To do so she must push herself to the limit.  Last time she did, it almost destroyed her, for now we must deal with the members of Watchers Council."

Part 4

The castle was a hive of activity.  When Molly Weasley arrived holding a couple suitcases.  She found herself surrounded by several eleven and centaur archers.

"Let her passed." Came Hagrid's voice.  He walked over from his waist hung a sword.

"What's going on here?"  Molly asked.

"It's a long story."  The half giant smiled.  "It began just before the Lady of Hogwarts set foot in the castle."

The said Lady, was helping in the infirmary.  One of the rescued girls was a total mess emotional, she was hurt, but refused to be examined.  She kept washing.  The redhead took the girl into a small side room.  Inside Willow had an uneasy feeling about what the girl was hiding.

"Hannah,"  she spoke.  "I know you're hurting."

Hannah Abbott just stared into space.  "You feel ashamed, dirty, angry that you couldn't stop them."

"They hurt me."  The girl sobbed.  "They too . . .k."

Willow pulled the girl to her.  "Poor baby."

Hannah sobbed.

Madam Pomfey had seen Willow take the girl into a side room.  The school nurse pushed herself to her feet from her bed.  She took a moment for her aching muscles to to stop screaming at her.  She then slowly walked across the room.  The door of the side room.  Slowly she opened the door.

Hannah was sobbing.  Willow was gently bushing the girl's hair.

"You don't have to say a word, and no one needs know what happen to you."  Madam Pomfey spoke.  "I know."

Molly Weasley found her daughter standing in a door way to the roof.  She pulled Ginny into a hug.  "Alright Ginny.  Now let me look at you."

"Mum,"  Ginny tried to protest against her mother checking her over.

Hermione walked a long the battlements of the castle.  The cold wind made the apprentice wrap her cloak around her.  Storm clouds were heading towards the castle.  "It's beginning."

"What is?"  Pansy asked.

"The end of history."  Hermione's hair moved in the wind as rain began to fall.  "Voldemort is making his next move."

One of the dragons landed at Hermione's feet.  "Storm is magical.  The door to Hell is being opened.  Bad magic, dark magic."  It spoke to her.

"I know."  She replied.  "I know."

The wind grew stronger and the rain became a torrent.  Thunder rolled in the distance.  The two witches and the dragon hastily made their way to the door.

"Hermione Granger what were you doing out there?"  Mrs Weasley sharply asked.

"Reading signs."  Pansy answered.

"Well, you'll catch your death out there, the pair of you."  The older witch scolded the pair

Dumbledore could not believe what Voldemort was doing before his eyes.  The dark wizard was supercharging his magic's with a Hellmouth.  "Come now Professor," Voldemort grinned.  "What did you think Azkaban was built to keep in?"

Part 5

"Have you lost your mind?" Dumbledore asked Voldemort.

"No,"  came the reply.  "Just my humanity." Lighting flashed, as rain poured down from above.

The Lady of Hogwarts stood at the doors of castle. The winds were blowing a gale, the rain's heavy drops bounced up off the ground.

A tree was hit by lightning, it exploded into flames.  "You can not stop me."  Voldemort's voice roared in the wind.

The winds seemed to blow against her, as if controlled.  This was a magically attack. A lightning bolt struck the ground a few feet in front of her.

Willow took a few steps back and raise her rod above her head. "Repello!"  She screamed at the top of her lungs.

The winds seemed to push harder against her.  "Your wards can't withstand the forces of nature."  The dark wizards voice laughed.

"Then the very forces will protect the wards."  She replied.

In Azkaban, the dark wizard felt his control of the weather weaken.  "So the young witch can match my control of nature.  Very well then, use druid magic to protect your stronghold it matters not."

"Get everyone inside the castle ground!"  Willow yelled fearing what Voldemort was about to unleash.  The redhead could sense a group of Dementors heading in her direction.

She wasn't the only one.  Hermione felt their presence.  "Dementors," the young witch snarled under her breath.  She broke off into a run.

"Hey what's up."  Ginny yelled, as she and Pansy ran after her.

Mrs Weasley hurried off after the girls.

Willow fired off several bolt of energy at the Dementors.  Almost all of the people where inside the castle.  That's when she fell cold metal pressing against her throat.  "With you gone the rest will fall."  A voice whispered in her ear.

There was a flash of magic and a scream.  Willow's attacker dropped the knife.  Willow turned to still a young man's face.  A look of shock in his eyes.  Neville Longbottom stood over the boy.  In Neville's hand was a sword made of pure magic.  Blood was dripping from it's blade.

"You."  The boy spoke.  "You stopped me. I'm a Goyle.  We're unstoppable."  Goyle lost consciousness.

Part 6

Neville was in shock.  He just looked at the blood covered blade.  Willow pulled the stunned boy inside the castle's doors.

The redhead wave her hand.  Goyle disappeared, as the castle door were shut  "I want a guard on that boy, now!"  The red ordered.  Voldemort's magic masked his arrive, she reasoned.

The elder elf  Met'us sighed, as a boy appeared.  A guard removed the boy's wand and stepped back.

"Lord Mattis."  The redhead turned to a elf in armour.  "Voldemort's magic can mask weaker magic.  I want the castle searched."

"My Lady."  The elf replied and moved off pointing at elves that soon ran off.

"Hermione."  Willow called out at caught sight of the apprentice.  "You and your companions.  Take Neville here to my study."

"I killed him."  the boy mumbled.

"Neville this way."    Hermione pulled on Neville's arm, as Willow stormed out of the hall.

The Elvin healer met Willow.  "Is the boy stable?"

"The boy is stable."  The elderly elf replied.

"Stable enough for a mind probe?"  The Lady of Hogwarts asked.

The elf paused and thought for a minute.  "How deep do you need to go?"

"Deep."  The woman's voice was serious.

"Then I would say with caution only."  Came a sober answer.

"Understood."  Willow walked into the room containing Goyle.  The boy was tied to the bed.

Hermione push Neville into a chair.  "Neville!"  She yelled.

Neville looked at her.  "He isn't dead."  She stated.

"But, I . . " He pointed at the sword in his hand.

Willow left the room.  Goyle's mind had been easy to probe.  His resistance was poor.  Too poor.  Voldemort let him been captured.  Willow reasoned, as she moved towards her study.

A Dementor passed close to a window.  It screamed, the wards ripping it into pieces.

Voldemort watched.  "Well, my old teacher."  He smiled at Dumbledore.  "It appears the wards can kill Dementors.  I must say I'm impressed."
