Aeschylus's gripping thriller of the return from Troy
Agamemnon
Translated by Kenneth McLeish & Frederic Raphael

A family feud to end them all. Soon a mighty palace will run with royal blood but where will your sympathies lie?

Night after night Queen Clytemnestra waits for her husband, King Agamemnon, to return victorious from the long war at Troy. When news arrives of his approach, the Queen and her people gather to greet him but terrible rumours are circulating. Is the King to be welcomed home as a beloved hero or do unexpected enemies plot revenge on this distant husband and cruel father?

Shot through with the haunting and magnificent poetry of Aeschylus, this gripping story will spectacularly unfold as twilight falls across the surrounding London skyline.

Written thousands of years ago for a distant people sick of war, this short and powerful play challenges the conflicting notions of violence, revenge and justice that still trouble us today.

It’s FREE. Just turn up, let the ancient story unravel and join the debate!
