My Personal Philosophy
Here's a selection of articles, letters and commentary which together define my personal philosophy towards my cross-dressing, as developed since my 'coming out' in March 1996. Some of you may find this stuff controversial, even heretical - but I hope it'll also provoke thought and discussion.
- "Is That a Blank Sheet of Paper, or a List of Crossdressers' Achievements?" This paper was presented at a Transgender conference in September 2003. It was the result of many months' work, and extensive research through archive material. Needless to say, it was greeted with derision by many in the audience, but was taken seriously by the people who matter. See what you think. NEW
- "The Choice is Ours" A foray into the future of western society, where the Battle of the Sexes has become a full-blown War. Enter crossdressers - with their feet in both the male and female worlds, they're the obvious people to pull the opposing sides together again, and restore harmony on the planet. Yes, of course it's a piss-take - could you ever believe otherwise?
- "Boy Meets Girl." This is a review of a forthcoming mini-series on UK Channel 4 television written by Polly Toynbee in the British weekly listings magazine Radio Times for February 10th-16th 2001. Maybe the programme producers will read this and take note ......
- "Crossdressing - A Personal Perspective" Stacy Novak, the president of the TransLiving International support group, asked me to write something controversial for the group magazine on the subject of trannies without wigs. I reckon this'll do.
- "Dear Stacy" This is part of an e-mail I wrote to Stacy Novak. Stacy seemed much more accepting of my ideas than certain other support group presidents - perhaps because Stacy is a real woman rather than a man masquerading as one.
- "Dear Headmistress" This sequence of letters followed my reporting of an instance of harassment by schoolboys near where I live. I was greatly encouraged by the school's stance on the issue of male cross-dressing - much more enlightened than certain tranny support groups I could name ......
- "Dear Sue" A member of the Roses support group wrote to me in June seeking a penpal. Naturally, I took the opportunity to put across my personal view on the practice of grown men wearing curly wigs and false boobs, and pretending to be women. I don't expect it'll be read ......
- "Men In Crisis." This article was written by Polly Toynbee in the Radio Times magazine for August 5th-11th 2000. And a very astute observation it is too.
- "Why can't tranny-friendly shops display a special symbol in their windows?" So wrote Sarah-Jane in a letter to the Beaumont Society. In fact, tranny-friendly shops already identify themselves in a very obvious way. Here's how to pick them out.
- "The Horrors of Hairy Men." This article by India Knight appeared in the British magazine Bite, dated September 1993. It's almost certain to be politically incorrect by today's standards, so don't take it too seriously!
- "Dear Auntie Pauline." Auntie Pauline is the Beaumont Society's resident agony aunt, so could this letter be a piece of light relief? Don't be fooled - look for the hidden message ......
- "Dear Debbie." Yet another closet tranny decided to have a go at me in the Beaumont Society magazine concerning my "anti-social" behaviour. Unfortuately, she didn't appear to have read my previous material, nor did she know anything about the Beaumont Society Constitution, both of which she referred to a number of times. Never mind, Debbie - better luck next time.
- "Cross-dressing and other sexual disorders ......" I received this piece of electronic garbage from a retired psychiatrist. With this sort of attitude, god knows how much damage he's done to transpeople in the course of his career! I hope my polite reply (attached) gave him something to think about.
- "Dear FXG editor." In the editorial of the Summer 1999 FXG magazine, my preference for "half-dressing" in public was described as "divisive" and "unwelcome". In this reply, I discuss the background to the issue from my personal perspective, and outline the reasons why I think it's essential to embrace alternative transgender philosophies and modes of dress.
- "Re: I don't want to pass as a woman!" A guy named Jim Nelson posted the original article in this thread on the alt.support.crossdressing newsgroup in April 1999. This is my contribution to the discussion which followed.
- "Suits You, Sir - Why Real Men Wear Dresses." I found this article in the British magazine Options, dated March 1999. The quoted excerpt outlines the policies of six High Street shops to cross-dressers.
- Dear Beaumont Society. I apparently stirred up a bit of a storm with my answer to Rosalind's letter Real Women in Trousers ...... (below) - this follow-up letter defends my point of view.
- Dear Beaumont Society. I wrote this to the Beaumont Society magazine after being told I was "improperly dressed" at the Society's Rotherham weekend, November 1998.
- "Men are Men and a Woman is ... Anyone in a Dress." This article appeared in the British national newspaper The Mail on Sunday, dated October 18th 1998.
- Dear Beaumont Society. This is my reply to a letter written to the Beaumont Society magazine by a girl named Rosalind. Her letter was entitled Real Women in Trousers Content to Look Like Real Women - Men in Skirts Trying to Look Like Real Women.
