Bully Wee Sting Jags
Broadwood Clyde 3 Partick Thistle 1
..............Broadwood started their season in impressive style against First Division rivals Partick Thistle. Broadwood started brightly and as usual pinned their opponents back early and forced a number of corners. None of these could be converted though and the game settled out. Dunn and S. McLeod combined to put Horne through who shot from 25 yds but the Thistle keeper saved well. Thistle started to test McEwan in goal with some long range efforts but he was equal to them and held them all well. McGee beat the off-side trap a couple of times but couldn't break the deadlock. It was getting pretty meaty in midfield and some shocking tackles on S.McLeod and McGee earned Thistle a couple of bookings. With Broadwood dominating the game it was quite a shock when an innocuous through ball was seen to have struck I.McLeod on the arm. A penalty was given and Thistle went one up despite the brave attempts of McEwan. Clyde didn't let Partick sit on their lead and again drove at them in numbers. Another corner saw Hawkes try and scramble the ball over the goal line but a combination of two defenders and the goal keeper got it clear. Broadwood finally got their equaliser when McGee showing cheeky skill in the box was brought down by the keeper. A penalty was awarded and McGee converted with ease.
..............The second half saw many goalmouth scrambles but with the Jags having so many men back Broadwood couldn't add to their tally. Hawkes, Horne, Reilly and S.McLeod all saw their shots blocked on the line. With the score still even Andrews was brought on for Hawkes and Horne moved up front. Almost immediately the cocky midfielder made the difference but Horne's shooting let him down. His next contribution was down the wing when he left the Jags defence for dead and whipped over a cross, McGee was rushing in and from 7 yds he bulleted home a header. Andrews was causing havoc down the right and again Broadwood won a corner. Horne delivered a perfect ball and it found S.Wandrum at the back post and he powered his header into the net. Wandrum could have got a fourth near the end but the Thistle keeper saved well at his feet. The Gaffer said after the match "Cheer up Johnny Lambie...etc"

Raith Hoodoo Strikes Again
Raith Rovers 5 Broadwood Clyde 1
..............Raith is a particularly difficult place to visit at the best of times, but with a depleted squad of only eleven men making the journey it was always going to be difficult. Raith played their usual game of physical football and high balls and weren't really causing the cultured back four much problems. Broadwood had the first opportunity when Andrews sent McGee down the wing, he burst through a tackle but his left foot drive was well saved. Raith replied when McCartney was beaten down the right and a cross was flighted in, to D.Wandrums dismay the wind caught it and it sailed in at the back post. Broadwood were stunned by this and pushed forward, forcing a number of free kicks around the box, Reilly couldn't direct any of them on target though. Another attack saw a stramash in the box and the ball fell to Ross but the rookie striker couldn't get his shot away. Another long high ball from Raith caught Kimmet flat-footed and forced D. Wandrum off his line, he was never going to get there and when the ball bounced up he clattered the Raith forward. The resultant penalty made it 2-0.
..............The second half saw Broadwood playing into the wind and Raith getting more of the play but tough tackling from Hawkes and Dunn epitomised the Broadwood spirit. The game was effectivley ended as a contest when a Raith tried a long range effort, D.Wandrum thought it was going past but misread it and it crept into the corner. A fourth followed with Broadwood pushing, and this was Raiths only goal of their own making when a through ball was played between Kimmet and S.Wandrum, the Raith striker latched on to it and fired home. Broadwood replied straight from the kick off when McGee and Horne sent Reilly into the box only to be felled by a trademark Raith tackle. Reilly stuck the ball away for a deserved consolation. Raith got a fifth at the end when Kimmet was blatently fouled in the air, the ball broke through and fell to McCartney who should've cleared but he missed the ball and left if for the Rovers striker to score. The Gaffer said after the match "The keeper is gutted, he put his head in his hands after the match and dropped that too."

Clyde Hump the Huns
Broadwood Clyde 6 Sandbank Rangers 3
..............Broadwood kicked off their first ever match in the top division in impressive style against the league runners up from last season. Straight from the kick off Clyde went at their opponents and McGee, Reilly and McCartney all had shots just past. Horne was enjoying this new challenge and a mazy run ended with a ball across the six-yard box which Reilly, Hawkes and Kimmett just failed to connect with. Rangers were playing an unfamiliar formation and Clyde were caught when Reilly made a slack pass in midfield, it was picked up and played forward and the Rangers striker stuck it away. Rangers could have went two up from a thunderbolt free-kick but McEwan soared brilliantly to palm it away. Clyde got their equaliser when Horne picked the ball up on the halfway line and took it past the entire Rangers midfield before laying it off to McGee just inside the box . The striker then turned and fired it into the corner.
..............Half time saw the return of Hanson to first team action and he replaced McCartney. Rangers took the lead again when Wandrums clearance found a Rangers midfielder, catching out the Clyde defence and the ball found its way through to a Rangers striker who scored. Broadwood equalised minutes later in spectacular fashion. Reilly and Horne sent Andrews down the wing and as hit the byline he crossed the ball over for McGee to dive full length and send a header in off the cross bar and into the net. Andrews was tiring and was replaced by S.Mcleod. Clyde kept pressing and got the clincher when Horne drifted in a freekick, McGee got his head to it and the ball fell to S.McLeod and he poked it home from close range. Clyde were dominant and even Kimmett came up from defence to try an overhead kick but it went wide. Rangers, now well beaten lost their shape and Hanson took full advantage when he ran half the length of the park to score Broadwoods fourth. Reilly chipped in with the fifth when Bryant came on and sent a low cross into the box, Horne looked favourite but Reilly nipped in to score. Horne then had a great opportunity when he was sent through by Bryant and was unlucky to see his shot go out for a throw-in. S. Wandrum then had two chances but a great save and a stumble kept him out. Horne deservedly grabbed the sixth when he burst through and with only the keeper to beat, did so. Rangers grabbed a late consolatiion via the penalty spot. The Gaffer said after the match "Horne had more shots than both teams put together but you've got to miss some to score."

Cup Dream 'Rover'
Albion Rovers 4 Broadwood Clyde 2
..............With both teams able to qualify from the group, Albion needing a draw and Clyde needing a win, this was always going to be a crunch match. Both teams were probing early but with the state of the bumpy pitch reminiscent of Raith Rovers' from Kirkaldy, Broadwood found it difficult to play their attractive passing game. Broadwood were missing some key players due to injury and work commitments so Dunn and S.Wandrum had to be on top of their game to deal with all the high and long balls that Albion were deploying. This they did with S.Wandrum winning everything in the air and Dunn timing his tackles to perfection. Rovers took the lead though when a S.McLeod lost his man down the left and a shot was driven in, McEwan seemed to have it covered but the ball squirmed through his hands and fell to a striker who tapped it in the net. This angered Clyde and a period of sustained pressure followed, Bryant and Hawkes both firing in low crosses for McGee but they were too close to the keeper. Clyde equalised when McGee was fouled making a run 30 yards out, Reilly stepped up and struck a screaming free-kick into the roof of the net. Then as Clyde seemed to be gaining the upper hand, S.Wandrum fractured his ankle making a clearance, with Broadwood having no cover he bravely stayed on through the pain barrier. Albion then took the lead again with a well worked move through the defence.
..............Half time saw Broadwood with a greater determination and Dunn seemed to be everywhere at the back making tackles. Soon though Rovers got another with S.Wandrums injury slowing him down, the striker fired past McEwan. With the game all but lost he went off. Surprisingly though Clyde raised their game and Bryant should have scored when Horne sent him through but his shot was brilliantly saved. Bryant then chipped a pass through the defence for McGee to chase, the defender got there first but, under pressure he tried to play the ball back to his keeper and only succeeded in scoring a wonderful own-goal. Broadwood then forced a series of corners but couldn't make them count. With Clyde's legs spent Rovers got the clincher 10 minutes from time.
The Gaffer said after the game "We could have done with more Dunn's." .
Broadwood: - McEwan, D. Wandrum, Dunn, McCartney, S.Wandrum, S.McLeod, Horne, Reilly, Hawkes, McGee, Bryant.

Hanson Blows It Against The Champs
Broadwood Clyde 2 Queens Park 4
..............The League Champions visited Ravenswood for this league encounter. Clyde won the centre and played it wide to Horne who fired in the cross, McGee met it with an overhead kick but the keeper saved. The ball then fell to McCartney who gave Clyde their fastest ever goal. Queens park were rattled and used their experience to pin Broadwood back for long periods, again Dunn along with Kimmett came to Broadwood's rescue. Wandrum and McLeod also were putting in some fine tackles and McEwan saved Broadwood several times. The Broadwood midfield and strikers were finding it hard to link up with each other and a fresh air swipe from McGee when he was trying to cross summed up their first half, luckily his blushes were saved later in the match. It was only a matter of time though till Queens scored though and a well worked move down the right saw a dangerous cross converted into the net. McCartney picked up a calf injury and was replaced by Hanson.
..............Half time saw no changes and Clyde upped the pressure with Horne trying some shots from distance but the majority failed to trouble the keeper. Queens changed their formation to try and combat the marauding runs of Horne but not before he set up Clyde's second goal. The waif-like midfielder shot again from distance but this time it was on target, this confused the keeper and he could only palm it away to the side, Bryant reacted like a well fed cobra and slammed it home. Clyde lost control of the midfield after this and the defence were put under tremendus pressure. The experienced Spiders converted this pressure into goals and with some luck and a deflection they pulled two back. Sandwiched between these goals Broadwood should have killed the game off. The ever eager Bryant chased down a lost cause and forced the keeper into a hurried clearance, it hit a defender on the edge of the area and Hanson dispossesed him, but with an open goal at his mercy and all the time in the world he fluffed his shot wide. McGee was replaced by Hawkes to add some weight to the attack but almost instantly the game was lost when another shot took a deflection over McEwan. Ross came on late for Bryant but to no avail.
The Gaffer said after the game "We must have had 70% of the game but it was the other 50% that cost us the match." .

Disappointing Broadwood Lose Out
Cascade 2 Broadwood Clyde 0
............. The Scottish cup has always been a good tournament for Clyde but when the team is let down by players like Dunn and I.McLeod who don't travel the task is made more difficult. The lads who did bother to make the journey, fought hard though against tough opposition. The wind and mud didn't favour the silky brand of football usually played by Clyde and Horne and S.McLeod both were getting caught with the ball under their feet. The Broadwood defence were under serious pressure in the opening stages playing against the wind. The Wandrum brothers and Kimmett were dealing pretty well with everything at the back though and McEwan only had to make a few good saves. Cascade were dishing out some bad tackles and the Broadwood boys were taking some punishment but they cut through the defence when Hanson burst down the wing and delivered a late cross for McGee, the ball fell just behind him though and the chance was lost. Hanson then had an opportunity to open the scoring himself but his lob sailed well over. Broadwood should have taken the lead when McGee chased down the goalkeeper and dispossessed him in a wide area, he beat the defender then squared for Hanson and Bryant but the ball went between them both. Then as Broadwood were starting to adjust to the conditions and the physical nature of the game, disaster. A long ball was played over the midfield and with the Cascade striker a full five yards offside he ran through and slotted neatly past McEwan.
.............. Broadwood were up for the second half and had a lot of possession but couldn't create anything in the final third. Hanson was then caught by a vicious tackle and had to be replaced by Hawkes who got stuck in right away. Broadwood still hadn't directly troubled the Cascade keeper and tried some long-range efforts but Horne and Reilly still couldn't hit the target. Cascade got their second when Hawkes lost possession in midfield and Cascade broke down the wing, the ball was played across and Cascade went further in front. With no penetration from Midfield or up front McCartney was brought on for Bryant to try and change things but again the boggy surface didn't favour his style of play. Cascade had their tails up but D.Wandrum was pulling off some heroic tackled as Cascade rarely troubled the Broadwood goal again. Ross then replaced McGee and instantly the rookie striker got the break of the ball on the edge of the box but he couldn't get his shot away. So the cup campaign ended in defeat but some lessons were learned.
The gaffer said after the match "The lads struggled as there were windy conditions under foot".

Broadwood hit 'Brick Wall'
Queens Park 3 Broadwood Clyde 0
.............Broadwood travelled south for the game against the reigning league champions. Broadwood passed the ball about well early on but didn't trouble the Spiders' goal. In fact Queens Park scored with their first attack with a passing move that cut open the Broadwood defence. Broadwood responded with sustained pressure and McGee was brought down on the edge of the box but Reilly blazed the free-kick over the bar. Then disaster, a through ball was played forward and Dunn and Kimmett both went to clear but they got in a fankle and allowed the Queen's player to get through and cross for his colleague to arrive unmarked and score. Queens turned the screw and the Broadwood defence were handing out their Christmas presents early when more slack marking put Queens three up, McEwan having no chance. Queens were then pinned back for the rest of the game and were content to let Broadwood attack. Horne was running the midfield and most of Broadwood's play came through him but the first half ended without Broadwood getting a goal back.
..............The second half started with Broadwood pinning them back onto the edge of their 18yd box. But that was as far as Broadwood got and Horne and Bryant both fired in shots but couldn't convert them. Broadwood then showed the kind of play they're famous for when McGee controlled a kick out and dummied the defender to allow Andrews to take the ball and release Bryant through on goal but the keeper was quick off his line and saved at his feet. Broadwood kept fighting and Hawkes came on for Bryant. Queens Park mounted a late flourish and McEwan had to come to the rescue when Reilly was caught out at the back. Horne was then replaced by McCartney but the game was over before he could make a difference. Broadwood fought with great determination and should have had a goal for their efforts.
The gaffer was proud of the fighting spirit shown by the boys and said " When we play like this next week we'll hammer Glasgow."

Strikeforce Wreak Revenge
Broadwood Clyde 2 Glasgow Clyde 1
.............Broadwood Stadium was the venue for the first ever league meeting between Clyde's two supporters' teams. It was a gala day with a big crowd turning up to see this much-anticipated tie. Clyde F.C. presented both teams with a match ball and after the photo call the game got under way. Broadwood passed the ball around well early on with Horne and S.Wandrum getting an early grip on the midfield. McLeod was dominating the right wing and his marauding runs were causing havoc. He skinned his man and delivered a teasing cross that intersected the strikers. McGee played it back in to Bryant and he teed it up for Hanson but his shot went wide. Broadwood then got a fright when a Glasgow player fired in a long range shot that pinged off the inside of the post to safety. Broadwood replied with a corner that S. Wandrum headed just over. Then disaster, a square ball was deflected goalwards by S.Wandrum and fell to a Glasgow forward who played it wide to un unmarked player who fired past McEwan in goal. Broadwood dominated the rest of the half but couldn't find the deserved equaliser.
..............Glasgow started the second half keen to add to their lead but Dunn and D.Wandrum were putting in some fierce tackles. Reilly also played a composed game, sweeping up at the back which meant that McEwan was rarely troubled in the Clyde goal. With the crowd willing them on it was only a matter of time before Broadwood got back into the game. McLeod did well to latch onto the ball in midfield and he sent McGee on a run down the right wing. His cross missed out the defence and fell to Bryant who steadied himself before picking his spot past the despairing dive of the keeper. Bryant then turned provider when his lob through the middle caught out the defence, McGee got his toe to it and lifted it over the keeper but the ball bounced agonizingly wide. Hanson had been the victim of some hefty tackles so was replaced by Andrews. With ten minutes to go Broadwood took the lead when Bryant again received the ball, swivelled and played the ball through the Glasgow defence. McGee beat the offside trap, raced clear and coolly slipped the ball past the onrushing keeper and into the net. Glasgow pushed forward hoping to snatch a goal but Broadwood defended well. Bryant went off to great applause and was replaced by Hawkes. Kimmett was leading by example at the back but the Glasgow team were pinning Broadwood back now and were forcing a number of corners. Three minutes into injury time another corner was swung in and headed goalwards, it seemed to be looping into the net but McEwan reacted catlike and clawed the ball away. With Glasgow running out of steam and time running out, the game was Broadwoods.
A delighted gaffer said after the match "Bryant has been described as a hungry striker and he showed that hunger at the goal". ......

Bankies Teach Broadwood A Lesson
Linnvale Clydebank 4 Broadwood Clyde 1
..............Broadwood travelled to face the league leader's who had yet to suffer defeat in the league so far this season. Linnvale were soon into their flow and their passing was the best that Broadwood had faced yet in there first season in the big league. Resolute defending had kept Broadwood in it, but two quick goals gave Linnvale the initiative. With half time approaching Linnvale grabbed a killer third goal & Broadwood were 3-0 down.
..............A tough half time talk by the gaffer swept Broadwood into action for the second half. A neat lay through from McGee send Bryant through for a shot, but the strikers right foot shot was well saved by the Linnvale keeper. Broadwood got back into the match when Horne swung in a corner, Kimmett jumped for it but missed it and the ball dropped in front of Andrews who knocked it into the net. Broadwood kept pushing and Bryant threaded a ball through to McGee who beat the offside trap & with just the keeper to beat shot weakly at him. Linnvale effectively killed the game with their controversial fourth the ball was launched into the box and the Linnvale striker controlled the ball with his hand before slotting the ball into the net. Everyone saw the handball, bar the ref. and the goal stood. Broadwood were encouraged by their second half display but had left a mountain to climb after the first half.

'Gers Gubbed
Sandbank Rangers 0 Broadwood Clyde 4
.............Broadwood made their way to Crownpoint for this crunch game against the relegation favourites, in a game where they really needed the three points. Broadwood started brightly and were soon heaping pressure on the Sandbank defence. Hawkes latched onto a through ball and with brilliant slight of foot skipped past the keeper and with an empty net amazingly tripped on the ball and fell over, with the whole Broadwood side rolling about with laughter, Sandbank cleared. Hawkes soon had another chance, a through ball from Bryant put Hawkes clean through, but once more misfortune was to befall the striker. He swung his left foot to bury the chance clipped his right foot and ended up in a heap on the floor. Broadwood finally took the lead when Hawkes got down the left flank and fired in a ball that Bryant clipped in at the near post sending the keeper the wrong way. Immediately Broadwood were two up when Hanson chased down the defender and dispossessed him. He knocked the ball through the defence and chased it down the keeper came out to block and he squared it to Hawkes who calmly made it 2-0. Broadwood knew that one more would kill it & they got the third just before half time. Wandrum played a through ball to Bryant and the striker smashed his second into the postage stamp from outside the left-hand side of the box.
.............The second half started with a crunch; the crunch of Chris Hanson's foot by a Rangers defender. The referee (not for the first time) missed the incident and took no action, as Hanson limped off to be replaced by Gaffney for his debut, he promptly marked this by back-heeling the ball through a Rangers player's legs & putting in a dangerous cross. Hawkes' hat trick of misses was complete when Bryant played him through he beat a Rangers defender and with a gaping goal sclaffed the shot wide. Rangers showed their ugly side when their striker came in miles late on Cammy Wandrum causing the game to be stopped for 10 minutes while the keeper got treatment, again the inept referee took no action. Collins replaced Hawkes and promptly picked up the games only booking for complaining about being called offside. But fortune was to smile on Collins another player making his debut when Horne got down the wing and crossed for the striker to wrong-foot the goalie and give Broadwood their fourth. With Rangers now onto a hiding the referee blew the final whistle a full seven minutes early, but Broadwood had played well and deserved their victory.
Gaffers Quote - " 3 points, 4 goals that's eight good reasons to be happy with today's performance"

Morton Do Us Again
Morton 3 Broadwood Clyde 3
(Morton win 5-4 on penalties)
............Torrential rain greeted Broadwood on their arrival in Port Glasgow for this Inter Division Trophy 2nd Round Match. Both teams agreed to play the game due to the distance travelled to get to the game. The game started brightly & the rain actually stopped. Broadwood took the early ascendancy but were struggling to create any real chances Hanson was the first to threaten when a good run opened up a shooting angle but the midfielder shot high wide & not very handsome. Scott Wandrum fired Broadwood into a lead with a stunning shot from 20 yards into the roof of the net. Just before half time some quick thinking from the strike duo doubled Broadwood's advantage Horne took a throw in to Bryant who lobbed it first time into the box, and Hawkes was quick off the mark to nod past the keeper to make it 2-0.
............The second half started again well for Broadwood and a few half chances hinted that Broadwood could secure a convincing victory, but disaster was soon to strike. Aitken picked up the ball 30 yards from his own goal and inexplicably turned and fired a piledriver past the stunned Scotty the Cat into his own net. This pepped up Morton who up to this point hadn't been in the match. Broadwood eased their worries when Wandrum grabbed his second after a scramble in the Morton box from a corner. However as the clock ticked down Broadwood lost another through slack defending from a corner. Paulo Di Hernio threw on McGee, Collins & Andrews in an effort to win the match, and good work down the flank from McGee set up Collins but the striker struck the post when it was easier to score. Then McGee put Horne through and Horne hit the keeper then skied the second attempt. Four minutes into injury time the Morton player found some space just inside the box and fired home an equaliser, and it was extra time.
............The only real chance of extra time fell to Aitken who struck the post after a good forward run. So it went to the penalties. First up was Reilly who coolly placed his shot in the top corner, Morton replied in kind and next up was Kimmett. He scored & so did the Morton player and it was 2-2. Alan Horne stepped up next, he tried a fancy chip but fluffed it & it trundled past the post. Morton kept up the pressure and with Collins converting his penalty and it was 4-3 McGee had to score. He did 4-4. The Morton player had a chance to win the match, he stepped up sent the Cat the wrong way and Broadwood were out !!!!

Bully Wee Bottle it
Clydebank 3 Broadwood Clyde 0
............Broadwood travelled to face last season's runners-up, and faced yet another game on ash (not the guys favourite surface). The game was a dull boring affair with few chances at either end. Bryant tried to send Hawkes through but the pass was just too strong & the chance was gone. After a scramble in the box a cool back-heel from Hawkes put in Bryant & with the striker picking his spot the Clydebank defender slid in (on ash, the nutter) and cleared. Clydebank took the lead when a great piece of skill on the right hand side made room for a cross & the looping ball was headed in at the far post. There was a lot of huffing and puffing from Broadwood but to no avail, half-time 1-0.
............In the second half Broadwood continued to try to push but were being outrun in the middle of the park. Clydebank's 2nd came from a corner. The ball was knocked clear to Bryant, however he was dispossessed and the ball was fired into the corner from the edge of the box. McGee came on for Hawkes & immediately made his presence felt. However it was Clydebank who killed the game with a third. Kimmett was skinned on the byline and the resultant cross was knocked in. Broadwood had some consolation when Gaffney fired in from a good cross-field ball, only for the ref to rule the effort out for offside.
Gaffer's Quote - "We were the better team, in looks, if not ability "

From Bad to Worse
Broadwood Clyde 0 Linnvale Clydebank 5
............Broadwood faced the champion's elect looking for revenge for the footballing lesson that Linnvale had delivered in the away game. The venue was Cumbernauld High (or Swamp Marsh as it is better known). Linnvale started the brighter and took the lead when the a well worked throw in was fired into the far post and the striker lost his marker to fire home. It was 3-0 before you could blink when a through ball was played the Cat charged out & missed it and the striker slotted No. 2, and in a carbon copy this time Scotty got the the man who duly knocked in the penalty. Broadwood created one opportunity in the 1st half when a flick on played in Gaffney who cut back to Bryant who beat a defender before firing the ball into the bottom corner of the net form outside the box, but the ref called the move back for offside against Gaffney.
............The second half was more of the same with Broadwood really struggling with the heavy park, & Linnvale grabbed another two. In the final moments of the game Broadwood fired a free kick into the area. McGee knocked it across the face, and with the goal gaping Horne amazingly managed to knock it past when it seemed impossible to miss.
Gaffer's Quote - " The Linnvale defenders were rubbish, if they hadn't scored five they would have drew 0-0"

Calamity Cammy Blows it
Glasgow Clyde 2 Broadwood Clyde 1
............This re-match of the teams, who had played at Broadwood stadium earlier in the season, started with a bang. In the first minute McGee chased down the ball and Ian Ritchie's back-heel was intercepted. The striker put in Bryant and with the goalie rushing out the striker took it on his weaker right, as the ball was heading into the net a Glasgow defender got back & cleared, but he only knocked out to Scott Wandrum at the edge of the box. The keeper was out the game the net was gaping, but somehow moose managed to place the ball just the wrong side of the post & Glasgow escaped. Broadwood were unlucky again when a long ball was floated in from the Broadwood half, was knocked back to the goalie by a Glasgow defender. McGee nipped in and scored, but the ref ruled offside the amazement of the striker.
............The second half was even more one-sided than the first, and Broadwood deservedly took the lead when a through ball was taken by Horne who came from deep & slotted past the despairing McCone in the Glasgow goal. It now a case of shooty in, as chance after chance fell to the men in red. Gaffney got down the left and crossed perfectly for Bryant. His header was heading goalward when McGee again nipped in and the mearest of touches was enough to fool the keeper, but again the ref ruled offside, completely missing the Glasgow right back who was standing on the line out wide. Collins came on for Bryant and immediately had a great chance but the ring rusty striker hesitated and the chance was spurned in the end, after a keystone kops episode in the Glasgow box. Broadwood would live to regret all those missed opportunities as Glasgow threw on two subs. The big midefielder hit a weak shot from about 30 yards which bobbled along the ground & unbelievably Calamity Cammy fumbled and the ball trundled into the net. Hanson replaced Hawkes and immediately gave away a foul. The ball was knocked into the box it was knocked back out and with Andrews ball watching Mallinson left him to fire home the winner. Sparking riotous scenes at the side of the park.
Gaffer's Quote - " I leava you lot for a one game and this is what happens !!!"

Episode IV - A New Hope
Hamilton Accies 1 Broadwood Clyde 2
............This game started very poorly for both teams, with a solid pitch and an extremely bouncy ball. Neither side was able to take a strangle hold of the game, with long balls the best option, for the first 15-20 mins, and that is what led to the Accies goal. A ball flighted over the top of Aitken, who inexplicably got skinned not once but twice, by a player falling over the ball. And that's where Broadwood's luck ran out, as the ball managed to rebound to an Accies striker at the back post to tuck away an easy chance. That lapse in concentration put Broadwood in the mood, and from here on in, it was relentless pressure, but Accies were coping well, playing with two sweepers, who were plucking off everything, supplied to the forward line. Broadwood had a throw in; Kimmett lobbed one into the box were S. Wandrum, a full foot above everyone else nodded the ball on, for Horne. He swivelled and arrowed a shot to the top corner, only for the sweeper to be there again, who cleared with a Buffon esque save. Unbelievably the referee said play on, at this stage Broadwood were raking up the corners, which were sitting at 25-1 in Broadwood's favour, but still no return. Broadwood finally found a through ball, when good work on the wing from Gaffney and Horne, found McGee who squeeze between goal, but his unlucky y lob attempt was just brushed over the bar by the keeper for yet another corner. The last chance of the half, was a late run from Horne, who was picked out by McEwan, but the ball was over hit as Horne raced in on goal.
............After Half time the game continued in the same vain with relentless Broadwood pressure, but it was starting to pay off, as the younger and fresher looking legs of Broadwood were starting to find some space. This is were Hawkes started to strut his stuff, delivering some excellent crosses into the danger area, and this is were the goal came from another excellent delivery, found Bryant, who managed to peel of the defender and power an unstoppable header into the bottom of then net. This clearly got Broadwood going, as Horne, Gaffney and S.Wandrum were finding acres of room and were piling forward at every opportunity. A great run from S.Wandrum, released Horne, who tried a one two with McGee, but neither one or two were up to scratch. Then a lung bursting run from McEwan got him one on one with the defender in the corner, who he duly, left on his arse. Due to his embarrassment took a swipe a McEwan, who when bearing in on goal, took time out to strike a pose and growl at the defender, before turning back to a now fully packed Accies defence. Yet he did managed to pick out McGee at the edge of the box, who picked out S.Wandrum at the back post, but his header was off target. Then as things were beginning to get desperate up stepped S.Wandrum and fired in the goal of the season. Under concerted pressure from his own team, telling him not to shoot, he turned and hit an unstoppable volley from fully 35 yards, which smacked to underside of the bar ala Tony Yeboah, to leave the Broadwood players ecstatic.

Captain Courageous
Broadwood Clyde 1 Partick Thistle 0
............This was a vital game for both teams as the loser would be favourite for relegation along with Sandbank Rangers. The importance of the game was to blame for a nervy encounter in the searing heat of Ravenswood. Broadwood went looking for a lead early on and a through ball was silkily dummied by McGee wrong-footing the defender Bryant read the move, ran onto the loose ball and crossed low and accurately for Andrews. The young striker should have put the chance away first time, but he took a touch and the defender got in the way to block. Thistle were living dangerously and Broadwood nearly opened the scoring when McGee knocked a crossed ball back into the path of Bryant whose flick was on it's way in until it took a bad bounce and ricocheted of the post. The game was crying out for a goal, and it was duly delivered just before half time by Captain Kimmett. He picked up the ball about 20 yards out skipped past three defenders on his way into the box, before being felled. Despite Thistle protests, he picked himself up & duly despatched the penalty.
............The second half made the 1st half look interesting with Broadwood looking dangerous on the break but a poor final ball was preventing any clear cut chances. The only real incident of the second half was when Thistle's big centre halfmade his way up to the Broadwood box & made a laughable dive in an attempt to win a penalty, landing like a beached whale. Broadwood were defending deeper & deeper & Andrews cleared off the line when Cammy had blocked the intial effort, but Broadwood held on for a vital three points.

4 Star Broadwood Wreak Revenge
Broadwood Clyde 4 Clydebank 1
............Broadwood lined up to face Clydebank 'Supporters' confident as this game was on old firm day. Immediately Broadwood took the game to the Bankies and Bryant made a neat bending run to take himself through on the keeper. He slotted the ball low but the keeper managed to stretch out a foot to block. With the keeper helpless on the deck Bryant launched the rebound into space. Broadwood missed several more chances before eventually they took the lead. A cross field ball was played into Horne who laid it to Aitken who, at the second attempt hit the back of the net from eight yards. It was soon two when a through ball from Gaffney was intercepted by Bryant who stepped passed the defender and thundered in a shot through the keeper's legs.
............The second half saw the introduction of McGee for the tiring Hawkes, but it was Clydebank who got back into the match. Thanks as usual to Calamity Cammy. Clydebank were awarded a dodgy free kick at the edge of the Broadwood box & while Cammy was busy organising his wall the Clydebank player gently passed the ball into the other side of the goal. Despite Calamity's protests the goal stood. However Broadwood were not to be denied & when Horne picked up the ball 20 yards out and fired an unstoppable drive low into the bottom corner Broadwood were on easy street. Bryant was replaced by Scott Wandrum, and the victory was complete when Kimmett came up for a free kick & headed home his second goal in two weeks.

Rock too hard for Broadwood
Dumbarton 2 Broadwood Clyde 1
............Broadwood made the trip to Dumbarton knowing that one point would be enough to secure Division 1 status for next season. Broadwood started well and the ageing strike duo were causing the big Dumbarton Centre halves problems, but it was against the run of play when Dumbarton took a shock lead. A long ball was played through and Calamity Cammy came outside his box to collect. However a Dumbarton striker closed him down and instead of launching Calamity tried to beat him. The striker trying not to laugh slotted the ball into the empty net. Broadwood pushed hard to get back into it & when Gaffney send Bryant through the striker curled the ball round the despairing keeper & it was 1-1. Dumbarton pressed up the park and they had a claim for a penalty turned away when the influential midfielder fell in the Broadwood box. The ref must have felt a bit guilty about this and awarded a penalty a minute later in a joke of a decision. The Dumbarton striker knocked the ball inside 10 yard in front of himself. Bumped into the Cat , he never fell or claimed but the ref unbelievably pointed to the spot. The Dumbarton player slotted & it was 2-1 at half time.
............Broadwood started the 2nd half in confident fashion but the final ball was missing. The odds were turned in Broadwood's favour when a Dumbarton threw a punch at Gaffney & got his marching orders. From this point on Dumbarton time wasted as much as they could even getting some of their kids to stand on the park to stop the match. Broadwood seemed to panic knowing that time was running out and started to shoot from long distance. Reilly was unlucky with a lob from 25 yards out that beat the keeper but a defender cleared it on the line. Then Bryant hit the bar but this was not to be Broadwood's day and the ref called time, a full two minutes early.

Samario Sinks Thistle
Partick Thistle 0 Broadwood Clyde 5
............This game started with an edge, as Broadwood knew that victory in this game would relegate their biggest rivals. But Broadwood started poorly, with Partick gaining control of the midfield early and Broadwood were chasing shadows, but for all their early possession they created nothing. Then manager Di Hernio made an inspired change and Swapped S.Wandrum from midfield to defence and Reilly to midfield, which changed the game dramatically. Broadwood started to dominate, the first chance came, when great work from Hawkes released Horne wide right, and his inch perfect cross was met on the run by Gaffney, but it was straight at the keeper, who touched it wide for a corner. The next chance fell to McGee who was released by Gaffney, but the keeper came out well to block, the ball fell to Bryant, who sent it wide from a tight angle. Then came the breakthrough, dogged defending by S. Wandrum, released the ball to Horne, who duly played a cross-field pass to McGee. He fooled the whole Partick defence with a clever dummy, which released Gaffney out left, who drew the keeper out and squared the ball to Bryant, whofired the ball into the roof of the net. The second came shortly after. A switch of play from Hawkes found Gaffney, free on the left again, who spotted the late run from Horne, who controlled the high ball superbly, before nutmegging the last defender. The keeper came out quickly and as Horne poked it down the side of the keeper, he got a hand to it, but it fell back to Horne who calmly slotted it into bottom corner. The last chance of the half was well worked by the ever-improving forward line. A long ball from Kimmett was again killed instantly by Horne, who turned and headed straight at goal from the half way line. A quick one two with McGee and then with Bryant almost put him through on goal, but a last ditch touch from a Partick defender snatched the chance.
............The Second half was much of the same, with Broadwood dominating play, and at this stage the midfield were brimming with confidence. Horne released Bryant down the inside right channel, and just as he went to cross he fooled the keeper and went for goal, leaving the goalkeeper in no mans land, a great finish by Bryant. With the pintsized striker now almost arrogant in his play, he received another through ball that he laid off to Gaffney who dummied the defender and then Slotted in the bottom corner, another good finish. With Horne, Gaffney and Hawkes penetrating runs causing real problems against the tiring Partick defence, opportunities were coming thick and fast, Horne skipped by two defenders before laying out wide to Hawkes, who released the ball to Bryant, who crossed for Horne, who's header was excellently saved by the Partick goalkeeper. This time a ball over the top, was latched onto again by the impressive Bryant, who's 20 yard curling effort stuck the post, before somehow evading 3 Broadwood players. Then came the fourth, another good ball from Hawkes put Bryant out wide right, who squared back to Hawkes who flighted a ball to the back post were, McGee struck the post with a header, and Reilly scored on the follow-up. The Final chance of the game fell unsurprisingly to Bryant. Another darting run at the heart of the Thistle defence and a delicate through ball from Horne, was turned in by Bryant, however the referee blew for offside, to even Thistle's surprise, but the victory was Broadwood's, and they condemned Thistle to life in the second division.
Gaffer's Quote - "Bryant played today like his dinner depended on it !!"

Hamilton Half The Points & A Few Broadwood Players
Broadwood Clyde 3 Hamilton Accies 3
............Games between last seasons promoted sides have always been tight & today was no exception. Broadwood's 5-0 humping of the miserable Jags had as well as securing their place in division one for next season, also ensured Hamilton's safety so with both teams safe a open friendly game was in prospect. That was until Hamilton's cluggers came to town. Broadwood were very lax in the first half, and shoddy defending led to Hamilton taking an early lead. Clyde looked like the end of the season couldn't come quick enough when Cammy saved a shot from the Accies striker only to spill it back into his path, and it was 2-0. Broadwood woke up a little bit when they won a corner & Captain Kimmett poked the ball home to bring Broadwood into the match. This proved to be false dawn as Hamilton went right up the other end of the park & restored their advantage. With seconds to go to the break, Hawkes latched onto a loose ball & fired a wonder volley into the roof of the net from about 25 yards to make it 3-2.
Some tough talking from the gaffer sprung Broadwood into life and took the game to Hamilton creating chance after chance as the Hamilton tackling got worse & worse. Horne put McGee clean through, but the striker looking nervy hesitated and the defender got in a last ditch tackle. Hawkes took a throw-in and Bryant flicked it on with his head, only for a Hamilton defender to volley his head and the veteran hitman was sent tumbling to the ground. Mysteriously the ref played on and as Hawkes slid in & won the bal the same defender then jumped on his chest. This time the ref did see it & he received his marching orders. With Bryant off to hospital with his injuries Andrews came on and was unlucky with a turn & shot that whistled just past. Broadwood were to get the equaliser they deserved when Kaiser Reilly powered in a header in the last few minutes.

Dumbarton Dumped
Broadwood Clyde 4 Dumbarton 3
Broadwood went in to their last game of the season knowing at least a draw was required for a better than 50% record over their first season in Division One. The pitch was a bit heavy to say the least, and young Gaffney needed a snorkel to breath above the puddles. Broadwood started sluggishly and Dumbarton showed why the were 2nd in the league. Some poor defending let in Dumbarton for the opener, however this seemed to spur on Broadwood who took a grip of the game with Horne putting in some strong challenges in the midfield. Bryant put McGee through but shot he weakly at the keeper. Aitken took on 3 Dumbarton defenders beating them all, he was clean through but the ref called play back for a foul on Aitken. McGee soon had another chance but shot wide, then another chancethe striker hit the side netting. Bryant then had a chance but the keeper blocked well. With half time approaching Captain Kimmett went on one of his mazy I'm looking for a penalty runs. The keeper saved the spot kick but Tam stayed cool to net the rebound. Half time 1-1.
Broadwood lost an early goal in the second half but came back strongly & Horne had a good chance but the keeper blocked. He intelligently knocked the ball to the far side for the waiting Bryant for a tap-in. Then Gaffney laid in Bryant who rounded the keeper and rolled the ball into the net, only for David Blaine to use his mystical powers to alter the path of the ball much to the amusement of everyone bar the pint sized hitman. However Bryant was to have his second only moments later when Horne beat three players & squared to Bryant for his second tap-in of the game. Livingstone replaced Hawkes & some slack defending from him allowed in Dumbarton to equalise against the run of play. With seconds remaining Bryant fired in a corner which tok a deflection off a Dumbarton defender before ending up in the net for the winner.
