Tricky question - to be organic or not to be organic. I tend to fall half and half into both camps. I do my best with organic preventative methods and means of pest control. However, when it comes to the 'nitty gritty' of having to watch a crop fail or a treasured plant die when I don't have to - then out come the sprays. I have plans for beer traps for slugs, covers for tender plants to protect them from being eaten, as well as anything else I find out about. I have been told it is possible to adopt a Hedgehog which may be worth looking into. I am keen to make use of Companion Planting wherever possible. This is where you plant complimentary combinations of plants together. This works because one attracts a natural predator to the other plants natural predator. For example planting Marigolds with runner beans encourages hover files that eat the blackfly on the beans. I will share the results of my research as it progresses. I'll share my trials and tribulations as I go on. |
