Samantha decided to change career and open her own soft play centre for children
up to six years old in Musselburgh, near Edinburgh, in 2001. The
concept quickly caught on. Having
established an open-plan centre for the children to play in, which offered
catering aimed at both children and adults alike.
The mix of good quality coffee, home-baking and personalised birthday
parties soon had business booming. Samantha
was eager to expand her Junglee Fun business further.
But why did she choose franchising rather than organic expansion? "I
really liked the idea. Franchisees
are enthusiastic because they're launching their own business.
And I get the pleasure of sharing Junglee Fun's quality standards."
she says. With
the help of Brenda Kirkpatrick, her Business Relationship Manager, Samantha was
introduced to the Royal Bank's franchise specialists - as well as lawyers,
accountants and other consultants with franchise expertise. "Everyone
has been tremendous. We've come on
further and faster than I had ever expected.
I'm really excited about the interest in the concept," she says. She
is now poised to open the first franchise in Edinburgh.
The target was to create 10 franchisee operations within the next five
years, but Samantha is confident that that target will be beaten. "It has been hard work, but I've loved every minute of it. The biggest task was drawing up the franchise manual, which details everything a franchisee needs to know about running their Junglee Fun outlet. But I got a lot of help from the franchise experts provided by the Royal Bank and Brenda. I'm now really confident this concept will go international."
