21st Janaury 2001 Important Notice A few weeks ago my computer crashed in a major way which mean’t the only way I could get any sort of recovery was to return the computer to it’s original factory set up. In simple terms I lost everything on my machine, inlcluding all your emails and addresses. This explains the new look to some sections of the site. Apologies if anyone is expecting an email from me, but I need to ask you to send me a new email so I can get your email address. This includes those of you who wanted to be put on the mailing list. Craig in Melbourne - Please get in touch. Thanks for the CD, hope yours arrived o.k. Annemarie & Edith - Please get in touch. Heather Sellors - I am now in touch with Heather Sellors who used to run Zaine’s UK fan club. 2nd December 2000 Still little to report, although the lovely Cerise at Extreme Voice reports that “Spies” has now been remastered in the studio. A record deal is still being negotiated. Lets keep fingers crossed. To save those of you interested in Zaine’s career from continually visiting the site when there is no updated news I will send out email updates for those interested, when I have something to report. Send me your email address with the subject ZAINE UPDATES and I will add your details to the mailing list. 27th August 2000 TheGALLERY has again been updated. There are now two sections. ‘PERFORMANCE’ - contains shots of Zaine performing live. ‘STUDIO’ - contains publicity shots of Zaine. Yet another new section appears called ART. This section centres around Zaine’s Charity Art Exhibition which took place on the 6th September 1982, in aid of “Nordoff - Robbins Music Therapy”. Check this out for some great pictures of Zaine with Steve Strange (Visage) and Mick Karn (Japan). 14th May 2000 GALLERY updated with more photo’s from Zaine’s gig at the Parkzicht, Rotterdam on the 21st July 1983 courtesy of Annemarie & Edith Hall . New section added, with information about Zaine’s club in New Zealand, THE JAZZ PALACE, including Zaine’s offer of free admission to visitors to this site. Yet another new section will soon be up and running with information about Zaine’s book FIGVRES, a book of poetry, art and lyrics. Zaine is currently managing an artist called Godfrey de Grut and hopes to bring him to the UK in 2001. Zaine seems particularly excited about his sound explaining that his sound is “a great blend of jazz come groove, come funk, come pop”. He plays sax, guitar and keyboards and has a vocal style that Zaine compares in some ways to Lou Reed and Tom Verlaine. They are currently working on several master tapes and hope to have some finished results soon. 11th April 2000 Midge Ure In 1983 Zaine worked with Midge Ure on 7 tracks. 6 of these tracks remain missing (come on Midge, where are you hiding them?). The only track to see the light of day was Zaine’s re-working of the Ultravox track “Passionate Reply” . Midge is credited as producer of the track and the sound is reminiscent of that Midge achieved on “The Gift” and the end sounds like it should segue into “The Dancer”. This version of “Passionate Reply” was originally scheduled to be a single release in around July 1983, however this appears to have been aborted for some reason. The track was finally released as the b-side to the 12” version of “Swing” released later in 1983. 29th March 2000 Helden - “Spies” Thanks to Harry Van Heerden I have now added a full track list to the as yet unreleased Helden album “Spies”. Cerise Reed at Extreme Voice is still persevering to try and resolve this and get this remarkable project out. Click HEREto see further details. David Bowie Harry has also provided me with details of several tracks that David Bowie re-recorded with Zaine and his band around the time that Scary Monsters and Super Creeps was released. Click HEREto see further details. 15th February 2000 I am now also in touch with Harry Van Heerden. Harry used to run Zaine’s Dutch office and promote his activities in Holland. He now runs the “Zaine International Bureau” and has already provided me with some great information and pictures which I have added to the newly created GALLERYsection of this site. If you wish to email Harry direct his address can be found in the LINKS section, or simply click HERE. 27th December 1999 I have recently received an email from Zaine who is keen to help with information and news for the site. Watch this space for more details. |
