Town gardens

One of the major features of town gardens is the proximity of neighbouring buildings which can often be tall, giving a sense of being constantly overlooked. Creating a sense of privacy and a space which is unique to the owner and provides an oasis of escape is a major element of design in these circumstances. As these gardens often exist in older parts of our towns and cities, an awareness of the architecture both of the house and the surrounding buildings is required, if only to use it as a counterpoint to the new space.
