Start Point

The start will be made from the road in front of St James' Church on Church Street.
This is a residential area, so you are kindly requested to keep noise to a minimum, and to park with careful consideration.
Please be sure to arrive a reasonable period of time before the start for registration, preparation and briefing. The race will start without you.

I am hoping that the Public Conveniences in the High Street will be open for us before the start - please revisit this page later on for an update.

Parking

Parking is generally OK on the road by the Church, but for those of you leaving cars here for later collection, please park, where possible in a Car Park.

Race Profile

As you can see this is a typical Cotswold Relay stage by way of its profile, yet remains my favourite. The early morning clear air with spectacular views and considerate gradients gets us off to a great start.

Description

Section 1

Starting off from St James' Church follow the road back to the High Street, and turn left until you reach St Catrherine's Church where you head off Right, carrying on uphill to Hoo Lane and out of the village.

Once you are past Dover's Hill, turned left on the road, you head downhill to a small cross roads. DIVERSION - we normally run along the road towards the Kiftsgate Stone, rather than run in the field below it. Now run the Mile Drive towards the road just over a mile further along, where you cross straight over and head slightly uphill towards the Fish Hill crossing.

Section 2

At Fish Hill the route has been modified in the last couple of years. You WILL NOT cross directly over when approaching the road, but follow the route to the left, crossing at a safer point as indicated by the new signs.

Run up to Broadway Tower, where you turn sharply to the right and head off downhill over a long series of stiles and fields, finally leaving the 8th field in the far right hand cornner. Continue into the High Street where you turn left down the road into the town.

Run down the long High Street, keeping to the left of the triangle at the bottom, turning left into Church Road. Look for the lane on the right after a couple of hundred metres. Run through the next couple of fields, Run up the field ahead keeping to the right hand side, and bearing round to the left into the woods in the top left corner.

Section 3

Leave the woods and keep to the left hand side of the field, join the track and run South. You reach a messy farm yard and bear right, and continue onto the long gradually ascending lane. Be sure that as you cross the lane at the top to bear right and pick up the lane agin heading South.

At the Shenberrow hill-fort. Drop down to the right in the valley track, round the discreet reservoir, and into Stanton.

Section 4

Run down the road into Stanton, past the Church, and turn Left at the elbow. Next, where the road bears right, you head straight on into the lane ahead, picking up the path via the stile. Carry on over several fields streams generally South, finally bearing slightly right to head towards the road. Carry on into Stanway, following the road, and greet the morning chorus of chauffeurs, runners, officials and bewildered locals as you finish in front of Stanway House.
