Start Point

The start will be made from in front of Stanway House, just before you head off to the left down the track. Make sure someone has the first gate into the field opened, and that someone has also got the gate onto the road (B4077) open, and ready to hold traffic when you flood across. It then gets tight pretty quickly in the small enclosed path for 100 metres after the road - GET AHEAD!

This is a residential area, so you are kindly requested to keep noise to a minimum, and to park with careful consideration.
Please be sure to arrive a reasonable period of time before the start for registration, preparation and briefing. The race will start without you.

Parking

Parking is often done on the roadsides. Please be very careful not to obstruct the road for locals, and to keep cars clear and not to linger on the road approaching Stanway House as the finishers will be sprinting past there in no time.

At the finish end, parking is in the quarry and not under any circumstances in the Golf Club Car Park. Park very carefully taking up as little space as possible in the open car park - we really need to squeeze ourselves in here.

Alternatively, park in the village and walk up onto the Common using the footpath by the gate - its only 250 metres or so.

This is a Golf Course. Be quiet, do not walk over tees and greens and respect the golfers concentration (they need it, alot, I understand). Please visit the clubhouse for coffees etc - we are here with their permission so its good to give them some trade.

Race Profile

A good hard piece of work. Its amazing how long those antennae on top of Cleeve Common take to arrive at. The stage with a kick in the tail as well.

Description

Section 1

Once over the B4077, head South, keeping to the right of the fields, and over all the stiles. In Wood Stanway, head out left along thhe road, past Glebe Farm and into the fields. Start climbing all the way up to the road at Stumps Cross. Turn right immediately off the road. 1000 metres later look for the right hand turn into the fields by the trees. After the Fort, look for the path and stile across the downhill slope to the half left.

There may be skeletons in this field as many a runner fails to find the path correctly here. Join the track after the stile and head down it to your right

Section 2

Approaching Hailes, with the old Abbey on the left and just before the Church on the right, look for the path through the gate on the left. (More skeletons). Shortly enter the little lane, then right then left. The map is not totally clear here, but the ground marks it more clearly.

Head off across the fields on a South-Westerly bearing magically picking up the lane into Winchcome after crossing a few fields diagonally. Turn left on the main road, and whizz past the shoppers heading South on Winchcombe High Street for 1000 metres. Don't miss the left hand turning down Vineyard Street.

Here is a helpful link.

Section 3

Head off down Vineyard Street, and after 500m look for the gate on the right into several fields. Eventually past Wadfield Farm and up its track.

At the road, turn sharp right. Now the map is not entirely clear here - so, go downhill on the road, letting the wood rise above your left shoulder. After 150m look for the gate and path rising into the wood on the left. Take it.

Once through the wood stick to the bottom of the field heading left. In the sharp corner head up the hill on the field edge. Turn left at the top of the field, staying against the edge of the wood on your left towards Belas Knap.

Section 4

Turn 90 degrees right at Belas Knap, along the field edge to the track. South West along there, turning right where the tracks meet at the farm. At the end of this track, through a gate, and then follow the post markers across the Common.

Follow the path carefully as you go through the Washpool, and then finally being lead to the steep climb up onto the Golf Course, over the brow and down the hill towards the finish above the Car Park in the quarry.
