Start Point

The Old Spot Inn in Dursley on Hill Road (also the start of the Dursley Dozen).
Please be sure to arrive a reasonable period of time before the start for registration, preparation and briefing. The race will start without you.

Finish Point

Opposite the Church in Wotton, in Parklands.

Parking

At Dursley there is a public Car Park by the Old Spot, but it can normally be relied upon to be full once a few relay cars have squeezed in. Please do not park on Hill Road as the runners need to get up there with the cluster of the start - your wing mirrors will not survive!

At Wotton we need to keep out of the Parklands Close, as the residents get a bit shirty. Try to make this a fly by and drop off / pick-up, as parking is a problem here. Definitely not a location to leave a car in during the run, unless you can find somewhere comfortably away from Parklands. There are Car Parks in Wotton, and as its not a big place, these are the best to go for.

Description

Section 1

Up Hill Road from the Old Spot, going straight on where the road bends left. Take the left-most track rising further through the woods. At the club house at the top of the hill, turn sharp right for the full tour of the Stinchcombe Hill Golf Course. The path is clear, and corner cutting will, at this early stage be easily spotted, wholly disrespected, and heavily penalised. Go all the way round, but be sure NOT to join the road as the map here implies, but stick to the grass to the right of the road. In the far corner, the path enters the woods, and descends. At the bottom of the woods, leave the track, and follow the marked path over steps into the field. Head off to the left along the edge of the field and eventually down to the road.

Cross the road slightly to the left. This field has in former years been head high with rape with only a trace of a path and can be quite sporting. Try to get out before we find you next year. Over a stile across the field, into a smaller pasture, on occasion hosting a bull, and exit opposite via a stile down to the road. Along the road to the right, looking for the track entering the wooded section opposite you at the road junction.

Section 2

Ascend this track, which becomes tarmac in North Nibley. Turn left at the road junction, then right opposite the pub. 50m later look for the track on the left side of the road. Enjoy the climb. Orientation at the top can be tricky - take a look at the aerial photo to check it out. Look for the track bearing slowly right across the middle of the top of the field. Head for the gate to enter into Westridge Wood, turning half right to continue.

In the wood, turn left just before the fort, finally emerging to see a thin field on your left. Where this turns onto a lane, turn right along the upper field edge, then down the middle of a field and exit onto the London Road.

Please note that for the finish of this stage, we stay on the main road down the hill, and do not head off into Bradley Street. At the bottom of Gloucester St / Old Town, at the stone cross, turn left into Combe Road and finish. This is to avoid the Church Yard and to protect the bride's photos from 'fresh' looking runners (there are always weddings in June!). My badly drawn dark blue line shows the way on this mini-map
