Scammell Pioneer (WWII)
| My own Pioneer model SV/2S RAF Recovery/Breakdown Tractor (on some rather soft ground). The vehicle is equipped with an 8ton winch below the body and a 3ton jib. The lockers would have contained heavy recovery equipment. To read about the restoration of this vehicle go to restoration. | |

Dave 'the Tug' Miltons Beautiful Pioneer model SV/2S Recovery Tractor in REME (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) colours. Welland Show 1998. |

Daves motor from the rear. The Pioneer didn't originally carry a spare. I suspect this carrier was taken from an Explorer. |

Another Pioneer model SV/2S Recovery Tractor this time sporting the early WWII 'Mickey Mouse' camouflage pattern. |

Pioneer seen on road run. A different tread pattern on the front tyres was quite common as the front axle is un-powered therefore the tread doesn't need to be as aggressive. |
| Chris Barton (who has the only other Scammell web site)emailed me this photo of his 1940 Pioneer (now sold) and says 'You haven't lived until you have gone round the Elephant and Castle roundabouts with a bus on a solid bar on the back....' I'll take his word for it. He now owns a Trunker. | |

May not look like a Pioneer but... It was built as a one off for Anglo Iranian Oil Company in the 30s using pioneer running gear. The Gardener 6LW engine was replaced with a larger 8LW. Thanks to David Bass for the photo from his collection. Davids father, Frank, was employed by Scammell for all of his working life. |

The Post-war '80 tonner' was more-or-less a wartime Pioneer but with a larger cab and a ballast body. They were built for heavy haulage up to 80 tonnes. It was superseded by the Constructor in the early 50s. Thanks to David Bass for the photo. |
