1954 Leyland Martian Artillery Tractor

The engine was badly mis-firing when I bought the vehicle. This turned out to be a split inlet valve. Rather than just taking the head off I decided to take the engine right out, check the bottom end and give the whole thing an overhaul and respray. The engine is a Rolls Royce B81 eight cylinder petrol (!) engine, returned about 3.5 mpg, but what a noise!

Engine going back in.

This photo was taken at Berkeley Castle MVT National Show in July 2001. This is after welding in new steel to get rid of rust in the wings and giving the old girl a respray. She is now showing 'Aden' Markings and camouflage. The Martian is 6x6 and has three point suspension in the same style as the Pioneer and Explorer. As well as the artillery tractor there was a cargo version and a recovery tractor. The huge four door cab was for the artillery crew of 12. The truck has now been sold.

1960 Daimler Ferret Mk 2/3

This was my Mk 2/3 Daimler Ferret before restoration (towed it home with my Martian). I'm on the left, my mate Howard (ex-REME recovery mechanic) is on the right (Oct 2001)
This was my Ferret after restoration (Summer 2003). Fantastic vehicle. Fast, nimble and really fun to drive. However it was sold in Feb 2006 to make way for my new Explorer (see link on left).

1972 Air-portable Land-Rover

My first MV - which I still own. This too is now completely restored. Photos coming soon.
