Scotland South Newsletter October 2007

Hi, The first of the run outs of this month was to St. Fillans. Apparently there was going to be a classic bike show there. The meet point was at Stirling Moto services at 10.00. Tom on his Tiger (Bonnie is in need of a new clutch cable) Derek, Geoff, & Stevie joined myself for this month's run. Also past branch members Scott & Caroline joined us.

It isn't a long ride to St. Fillans so there was no rush to set off. We enjoyed coffee and the usual chit chat before fuelling up the bikes. We set off with Tom leading us; all arriving safely without taking a wrong turn.

The classic bikes were a bit thin on the ground. At first some of us wondered if we had the wrong weekend. As time passed several very impressive classics arrived. We all had a good day out; it was a nice short run.

Alford. Derek submitted this report about the run to Alford. Derek arrived at Stirling Moto services at 10 to 10; he waited until 10.25 and, as no one else turned up, Derek decided to do it alone. He met one of the guys who was at St. Fillans the previous week, also a Scotland North member. Derek wishes he had known no one else was doing the run then he could have missed out on the 50 mile ride in the wrong direction.

All things considered it was a good day out, all 365 miles of it. Derek only got a couple of photographs as the batteries in his camera ran out.

Horsemill Inn On 30th September was when this month's branch meeting was held at the Horsemill Inn. Anne sold this month's raffle tickets which was won by Colin's son Craig. He was looking very pleased with his substantial winnings!

Brian & Nina were sporting their very flashy his & hers 2007 Manx Grand Prix T shirts. They both had a fabulous time on the Isle Of Man. Nina said this years TOMCC meet at the Waterfall Hotel was a bit chaotic as the Norton Owners & the Vincent Owners also showed up.

With only one person serving at the bar it was annoying that not enough staff were on duty to serve a lot of visitors. As Sylvia had a lot of other things to do, Nina stepped into the breach and sold the club badges and distributed membership application forms.

Brian & Nina are looking forward very much to next year's Manx; so much that they have booked their accommodation and ferry tickets. Enjoy.

After lunch it was time to discuss the route to the Clachaig Inn at GlenCoe. Out of the 11 bikes at the meeting Derek, Geoff, Colin & Craig, Brian & Nina, Alan all went with George leading.

Anne & myself in the support vehicle followed the bikers who were wanting a fast and hard bike ride as the day was right for it.

The first stop was at the traditional biker stop, the Green Welly. After fuelling up and a nice relaxing break it was time for a good blast through the Rannoch Moor to GlenCoe.

It was a very good day out enjoyed by all. It was commented on how well George led this run. He has led a couple this year and gets better every run. He had good practice with last year's around Scotland trip.

The Clachaig Inn has rooms; fancy large pricey tourist size. If anyone next year fancies trying out their hospitality on a Saturday night let me know. Also, only 0.6 miles away, is the nearest camp site. This year's price is £7 per adult. Happy camping but don't forget your midge hood!

This is a late entry as I nearly forgot; silly me how could I. There was a really exciting letter I received at the meeting before the run out. The envelope contained brochures for the new location of the club rally that has recently been held in Rhyl.

The new venue is Woodhall Spa; called Bainland Country Park. I shall bring the brochures to the next meeting for any member who is interested.

October's branch meeting is at the Navaar House Hotel with also the last of this year's bike runs to Glentress. Boo Hoo. STEPHEN.
