Place the sail tie over the furled sail so that the loop end is hanging down in front of you. Draw the running end under the sail and around or through the part of the rigging to which the sail is to be secured. Pull the running end up through the loop then fold it over into a loop with itself. With the now looped running end, create a hitch on itself and tighten the knot up. Simply pull the running end to release it.
