POSITIONS HELD/TITLES

Kyros used to hold a number of positions in the Great Kingdom, but they are totally irrelevant now.

OTHER RELEVANT DETAILS

Kyros was captured by Major Halstus in Gradsul in C.Y. 586. Rather than allow him to be extradited to nyrond, with Lord Thoggin's blessing the Mareschal Ollf Veshper arranged a murder trial and fake execution, so Kyros's true identity is now even more secret than ever.

BACKGROUND/HISTORY

Helden was born as Kyros Telliran to strict law-abiding parents in Eastfair, North Province. His father, Kendros, was an ex-army veteran, and he has two younger sisters, one of whom married some minor noble in North Province, the last time he heard. Kyros spent the early years of his life as a soldier of the Herzog, in service to the Great Kingdom.

His exceptional skills - swordsmanship, siege tactics, disguise etc - rewarded him, firstly with a command responsibility out in the field, where his tour of duty took him to the Nyrondese border, and later, as part of a team of spies sent to foray into Nyrond and the surrounding regions. In these earlier years, Kyros was amibitious, scheming, interested in furthering his career, gaining much favor with his commmanding officers. The environment of the North Province bred no lasting friendships, only competitors and enemies. As he rose in rank, his subordinates grew to dislike his cruelty. He had one or two forgettable relationships, but focused on martial excellence.

It was during one of these missions where his party took refuge in a castle of a minor lord, only to find that the lord and his family had been cursed into spectres. The entire party was slain, except for Kyros, who seemed to resist the level draining abilities of the spectres due to an amulet he had chanced upon. The terrible side-effect of the amulet was to gradually change his alignment from lawful-evil to chaotic-good. Not realising this, Kyros duly reported back safely, only to find in the ensuing months that he had no stomach for the procedures of the garrison and the running of the army. He grew to hate everything his former life represented: the domination and oppression of others.

He currently bears a great hatred for the Great Kingdom and things related. His desertion has made him enemies with most of the army stationed in the northern part of the North Province. He believes, quite rightly, that they will kill him on sight.

With the advent of the Greyhawk Wars and the collapse of the Great Kingdom, Kyros took the opportunity to desert his homeland and headed northwest. Rejecting his former lifestyle completely, Kyros gave up all manner of fighting and martial arts and began to waste away his life until, passing through Nyrond, a jolly priestess of Olidammara pulled him out of his own self-pity and initiated him into the priesthood of Olidammara.

Still much of a wanderer and loner, he has made a couple of good friends in the last couple of years, notably in the area of central Nyrond: an adventuring party (the Brightstars), and is familiar with the people of its capital city as well as the clientele of many of the outlying inns and taverns. He can be said to be known passingly by a great number of people in Nyrond, and naturally has spent a number of years in the various Olidammaran shrines in the country.

Kyros bears a secret fondness for priestess Alenna Lwern, the one who literally dragged him out of a gutter in Rel Mord one day and brought him into the faith. He has never revealed his attraction, considering it inappropriate, even though she is merely 4 years his senior. A complete contrast to his past, Kyros bore no ambitions in the Oildammaran church, keeping a low profile (partly motivated by secrecy, partly by a genuine desire for simplicity), content to travel and bring succor to those around.

He managed to do some good in the War years assisting in the war effort, even in general cheer and merriment, until Captain Halstus of the Nyrondese army recognised him as an enemy of the state. Kyros disappeared before he could be charged for treason, leaving behind the last 9 years of his life. forcing him to head further across Oerth. Where his travels take him next he does not seem to particularly care.

Currently, he fears that his past secrets may be revealed, and is afraid of running into former acquaintances from Nyrond and the Great Kingdom. He hopes to continue his ministry in relative peace and anonymity anywhere, and believes that his continual travels will enable him to do just that.

Kyros is a talkative, cheerful person, a complete opposite of what he used to be. Tall and wiry in stature, he favours formfitting clothing, a preference from his earlier army days. He is irreverent and humourous, and exhibits a great deal of concern for others, in gratitude to his teacher for have done the same for him. In private, he can sometimes be observed to be a little pensive and weary, although he tries never to show this side of him. He does not say it, but he misses the places he has left behind, and regrets that he cannot return, but he hides these feelings through much revelry and seeming casualness.

In truth, he is often sad, but his faith enables himself to see the lighter side of things. He currently lives a wanderer’s life and often travels in disguise, a combination of natural and magical disguise, and owns a hat of disguise from his spying days.

Some know Kyros as Sablefist due to the single black glove he wears on his left hand. This enchanted gauntlet enables him to use a weapon on the left (he’s right handed) with no penalty to two handed fighting and a weapon held by the glove cannot be disarmed. He used to prefer a double shortsword combination, but has more consistently wielded a staff since turning priest, and especially since the recent acquiral of a powerful magical staff-spear.

RECENT HISTORY

In CY 585. during a mission in Gradsul for Keoish intelligence, his past caught up with him. Major Halstus captured him and applied to the Keoish for extradition. This was refused, however Kyros had killed a man in his capture and he was sentenced to death for that. Due to his importance to hte King's spymaster, Thoggin Oakley, his execution was staged and Kyros assumed the new identity of Helden Graveleaf, a friend from the past who was dead. He has now put aside his glove and assumed the ranger's identity fully.
