AFFILIATIONS

Mordekai's familiar is a pseudo-dragon called Grymalkin. Grymalkin is a reddish-brown creature about 18" long and appears to be a young red dragon. His chameleon-like powers allow him to appear 80% invisible against normal backgrounds.

Grym will only fight in dire emergencies to save his master, but has already saved him at least once from serious injury. They have been together for about 12 years, and Mordekei likes to take him everywhere, except in the most dangerous of circumstances. Unfortunately this can lead to a few scenes, as the common folk of the land don't take too kindly to dragons in their midst.

Nonetheless, they tend to back down when they realise a wizard is involved. A favourite trick of Mordekai's is to use ESP to read the minds of such offensive folk, and divert their attentions by revealing their deep secrets.

Mordekei is also a member of the Magusvollk, a guild of neutral/good magic-users in his home city of Niole Dra. He is not currently active in their council but has been their past-master and is a respected authority, well known in the Sheldomar lands, on mind magic. He has close ties, and has in fact been asked to join, both of Niole Dra's other wizardly guilds, the Silent Ones and the National Academy, but has refused both.

Mordekei is extremely wealthy, but has little regard for money. It is left scattered throughout his townhouse, much of it forgotten. He has in excess of 20,000 gp there.

PROPERTY OWNED

Mordekei owns a spacious townhouse in the north-west of the Keisling area of Niole Dra. This place is a clutter, but is looked after by his apprentice, Zakanieth (0-level), when he is gone. It has a small laboratory in the basement, and a large library of magic and non-magic tomes.

Mordekei prefers to keep his psionic powers as secret, as they are even more feared than magic in this world. He tries to pass them off as magic wherever possible. There are only two people, both mages within the Magusvollk, who know of his abilities. One of them, Gastanyyk, is also a psionic and is Mordekai's tutor in both magic and psionics.

BACKGROUND/HISTORY

Mordekei was born the son of a minor Keoish noble, Baron Varruch bat-Yahweh of Shall. His father is a Knight of the Order of the Watch, whose lands are in the Northern baronies of Keoland near to the Rushmoor.

It was when taken with his father to court in Niole Dra, where they maintain a large town-house, that Mordekei first met and befriended the Mage Gastanyyk. Recognising the boy's latent powers and potential, Gastanyyk persuaded his father to allow him to become his apprentice.

Mordekei took to magic like a duck to plum sauce, and after several long years study in the arts of magic and of the mind, he set out to start his lucrative adventuring career. A strong, well-built lad, his keen mind often resulted in him being the only survivor of his earlier adventures.

RECENT HISTORY

It has been a few years since he last adventured, preferring these days to spend his time in research in his home, but secretly Mordekei yearns the excitement of days gone by. He has enjoyed his participation in the Dark War, working as a magist for the King's army, and playing a major role in the Battle of Galden Field when the King's encampment was unexpectedly attacked.

From then on he became involved with a group of adventurers who were to uncover a Scarlet Brotherhood plot to kill King Kimbertos Skotti of Keoland. Once the King was saved, Mordekei realised his shortcomings in the world of adventuring and has returned ot a life of research in Niole Dra.
