Sheldomar Timeline

The Years of Myth
-2266 The Flanae, under the protection of Beory, Pelor and Rao flee their lands en masse, making a perilous crossing of the Hellfurnaces. They move north into the lands of Eastern Oerik, later called the Flanaess, as the first human inhabitants of the area. Initially, they are well received by the demi-humans dwelling there.
-2151 The founding of Haradaragh, the first Flanae City, in the Lortmils [Year 1 in the Flanae Tally of Years].
-2044 As the conflicts with humanoids in Haradaragh worsen, the Ka'alagh tribe warn the others and leave the city, moving west in anticipation of the fate of the city.
-2031 Fall of the city of Haradaragh.

The Years of Migration
-415 Uhas-b-kurn, Prince of the Se-Ul House of Neheli, and his followers split from the Zolites, turning north across the Sheldomar Plains. Another group head east and slaughter a group of Flan in the Suehenna Hills (Drachensgrabs), thus creating the Twisted Forest. As they approach the Rushmoor, the House Mages of the Neheli, the Silent Ones, mysteriously leave the encampment overnight, heading east toward the massive Glimmerwood.
-414 Olven histories report the mysterious appearance of the Tower of Silence in the Central Glimmerwood. The leader of the mages therein, the Wyrd of the Silent Ones, settles with the local wood elves to remain there.

Immris and the remnants of his Se-Ul House of Rhola settle in the southern plains of Keoland along the Sheldomar River valley, south of the Glimmerwood. Immris refuses to dilute his Suel bloodline by intermarrying with local tribes, and initially assumes an aggressive stance with the non-Suel natives there, which is possible due to their magical superiority.

-413 As the Neheli turn east between the Yatils and the Lorridges, they encounter the Vecnan Empire. Refusing to yield to Vecna, they fight against the Oeridians in what will become western Veluna.
-408 The Desolation of the Mages of the House Rhola occurs. In one day, all mages of standing of House Rhola are either found dead, or disappear never to be seen again. The Silent Ones are suspected to be involved, but the real cause remains a mystery.

Without his magical superiority, Immris is forced to nurture better relations with his neighbours.

-406 Death of Prince Uhas. Prince Marrindar takes over as leader of the Neheli. His House has been decimated by the Vecnan conflict, despite intermarrying with local Flan and Oeridian tribes. With no end to the war in sight, Marrindar leads the Neheli back to the Sheldomar.
-403 Marrindar and the Neheli, having travelled south along the western edge of the Lortmils, settle along the Kewl River.
-388 Prince Marrindar, of the House Neheli, marries Thelenah, the daughter of a powerful Flan Warlord, Ammrat of the Shar-Ek, who rules the coastal lands around his stronghold in the location of modern day Gryrax.
-386 On the 'unexpected' death of Ammrat, Marrindar pronounces himself Prince of the Ul-Ek. With the exception of the Sheldomar valley itself, ruled by the Rhola, Marrindar now rules from the Kewl River to the Azure Sea, east of the Sheldomar, bordered by the mountains and hills to the east.

The Years of the Olven Wars
-379 As foresters begin to encroach on the Glimmerwood, the Olvenfolk therein begin attacks on them, which leads to the First Olven War. Many human forest dwellers side with the Olvenfolk against Marrindar and the Ulek.
-373 Death of Prince Dra. Balarr-ben-Dra, new leader of the House of Rhola joins with the Ulek in the First Olven War. Neither side is gaining any ground by the nature of their warfare, as the Olvenfolk stay within the forest.
-375 The Great Firing is undertaken in the Glimmerwood by the Neheli and Rhola. This leads to the destruction of large parts of its central area, although the forest is not yet split into two. The Tower of Silence survives within the devastated area, totally unscathed by the fire. The main Olven forces retreat to the northern end under the protection of the Grand Druid All'aman'sheriss, who, with the help of the Silent Ones, magically stops the fires.
-374 Balarr-ben-Dra kills the Olven Lord Eylerr'sla, taking the mythical Olven blade of power, S'ealaraq (Fatebringer). Marrindar is killed by an Olven archer in the southern Glimmerwood (what is now the Silverwood). Lady Thelenah of the Ulek ends the first Olven War by marrying her youngest daughter to Dass'ktring, half-olven leader of the Olven insurgents.
-342 Balarr-ben-Dra dies. Prince Ksander becomes head of House Rhola. Ksander unifies the human tribes of southern Sheldomar, from the Sheldomar to the Dreadwood.
-336 Ksander's domain spreads north, with all tribal leaders who are allied to him signing the Rholan Charter, the first written constitution of the Flanaess. This Charter, based on Old Suel laws, sets out the rights and duties of all classes.
-315 City of Jurnre is built by Prince Haurald the Twain. The cost of this city cripples the Ulek Prince, who marries the daughter of a rich Oeridian trader to solve his financial problems.
-272 Prince Keoghtain becomes leader of House Rhola, and starts to unify the tribes of mid-central Sheldomar.
-268 Princess Shallarii of the Ulek, marries Keoghtain, unifying the Suel nations by blood. Keoghtain is crowned King of the new state of Keoghland in the city of Jurnre, where his cousin, Gulain, the newly proclaimed Count of Ulek, swears fealty to him.
-267 Keoish troops march north, driving off the nomadic Suel and Oerid raiders from their settlement of Niole.
-266 Work begins, near to the Tower of Silence, on the walled city of Niole Dra, built in honour of Keoghtain's grandfather, in the fertile plains which remain as a result of the Great Firing.
-265 Keoghtain reforms the Rholan Charter, altering the old class-based Suel Laws therein with a new system of law to include fairer Oerid and Flan common law traditions for his new Kingdom. The Keoghtain Reckoning now controversially excludes the Silent Ones from government.
-264 Walled city of Niole Dra is completed, and the Keoish throne moves there.
-258 The Keoghtain Renaissance begins in earnest, as the King persuades the great sage Halacuin to enter his service. Halacuin, at Keoghtain's bidding, gathers an academy of scholars and sages around him, developing what will eventually become the Royal University of Niole Dra.
-255 Halacuin and his academy start to collate the old Suel heroic sagas, and begin the first written treatise on the grammar and vocabulary of the Suel tongue, allowing its use among scholars of later years, and establishing it as the universal language of the learned at the time. Most commoners outwith the major cities continue with their previous languages, a mixture of Old Oeridian and the Sueloise tongue.
-255 to -251 Keoghtain extends the Kingdom, now known as Keoland, through marriage, political bargaining, and some minor battles.
-250 A new coinage is introduced, weights and measures are reformed, and communications are greatly improved by the building of the Caisteallweg, the royal road from Niole Dra to the southern Keoish port town of Gradsul, amongst other roads. Keoghtain's lively interest in arts establishes the importance of Keoish art, literature and music
-243 Lizardmen raze Nordmeer, Keoland's northernmost settlement on the edge of the Rushmoor, killing or abducting all inhabitants.
-243 The Lost Band, a group of brigands join with the lizardmen from the Rushmoor and raid the settlements in northern Keoland from their hidden bases.
-241 At the Battle of Thistlewood Turnpike, General Attelstein is victorious against the Lizard King Gruub Sh'lamm and the Lost Band. Attelstein slays Gruub in personal combat.
-237 Keoghtain I dies, and the Olven blade S'ealaraq is hidden by his mentor, Gardan, a priest of Phaulkon. Prince Ailurrin assumes the throne as Keoghtain II and continues his father's work in expanding and improving the Kingdom.
-235 On the death of Halacuin, Keoghtain II formalises his academy by Royal Decree, and work begins on the building of the Royal University of Niole Dra.
-232 Glimmerwood uprising, lead by Dass'tiran, son of Dass'ktring. Dass'tiran is captured and taken to Niole Dra, where he is tried and executed for treason. This leads to the second Olven War, between the Keoish and the Olvenfolk of the Glimmerwood. Again, great areas of the forest are burned, and the central belt is cleared completely, splitting the Glimmerwood into two smaller forests, later to be called the Axewood and the Silverwood.
-231 Axewood Olvenfolk, under the Grand Druid All'aman'sheriss, sue for peace, accepting rule by Keoland in return for an unwritten policy of non-intervention.
-229 After initial successes, the Second Olven War ends with the Silverwood elves' surrender. Keoghtain II marries his youngest son, Jarrian, to the Olven Lord's daughter to ensure future peace.
-228 Keoghtain II and his two eldest sons are mysteriously ambushed and killed en route to Axewood Palace. Rumours of Olven involvement leads to the Olven Purges throughout Keoland. These only end after the crowning of King Jarrian the Fair, when he sends troops to enforce the peace.

The Years of Unification
-226 King Jarrian appoints administrators, known as 'Counts' to govern his kingdom locally. As these Counts are permitted to gift land and titles to others, the boundaries of Keoish noble lands change greatly over the next 600 years until that right is removed by King Tavish I.
-205 The use of Ancient Sueloise as the kingdom's official language is found to be too cumbersome, and a Royal Edict outlaws its use. Keoish becomes the official language of Keoland. The Royal Sage Maphamad completes a written discourse on the grammar and vocabulary of the language. This is quickly accepted in the more cosmopolitan areas, and is easily adopted in more rural areas where the Suel tongue was never fully accepted.
-202 Migration of the Dwer east from the Hellfurnaces begins.
-196 Keoland's supreme court, the Rychskurt, opens in Niole Dra.
-194 Death of Jarrian the Fair. King Lammeras the Half-Olven is crowned in Niole Dra.
-193 Building of the first great Dwer Hall in the Lortmils, Gilmorack, beneath the mountain of Abharclamh.
-178 By continued peaceful expansion, Keoland now covers all the lands which will become the Ulek states.
-168 Keoish expeditions first encounter the Ka'alagh tribe, Flan-Oeridian rulers of the Good Hills, who resist their influence, holding fast in their belief of the prophecies of the Stone of Destiny.
-154 After a decade of failed diplomacy and bargaining, Lammeras amasses a huge army to defeat the Ka'alagh. As they approach the foothills of the Good Hills, the Ka'alagh surrender, although their noblefolk have fled west, out of reach. The 'Stone of Destiny' is taken to Jurnre, and placed under the Royal Throne, to be used in all future Keoish coronations, despite persistent rumours that it is a copy, not the original.
-151 The remnants of the Ka'alagh nobles make the first passing over the Lofty Trail, settling in the northern hills of the Stark Mounds. Some continue on to the village of Gorna and settling there and mixing with locals, but maintain loyalty to their King, the Re'ekh.
-150 The Re'ekh of the Ka'alagh is accepted as ruler by the folk of southern Geoff, as is their feudal clan-based system. He continues to expand his 'kingdom' by peaceful treaty and coalition of the Flan tribes there.
-139 Displaced Oerid raiders are repulsed from Geoff by the tribes united by the Ka'alagh. They then turn to Sterich where they easily defeat the Flan tribesmen dwelling there.
-106 At the Tower of the Heavens the religious misinterpretation starts and a Celestian cult begins. The Seers receive a delegation from Niole Dra.
-89 Adventurers from Gradsul, lead by the warrior Eowain, explore the area between the Jotens and the Little Hills, advancing into the foothills of the Crystalmists there before turning back.
-71 Eowain leads a group of Suel settlers from Keoland into the plains west of the Little Hills and settles there.
-67 A confederation of Flan-Suel tribes unite under Eowain to form the Eomanry (to become the Yeomanry) and constitute the Flanaess's first form of democracy.
3 An unknown Necromancer builds Dreadwood Castle in the forest-marsh at the south-west corner of the Dreadwood. Olvenfolk desert that part of the forest as it becomes a breeding place for evil.
7 Suel raiders settle the Gran March area.
20 As trade by ship flourishes, the southern Keoish ports of Gradsul and Gryrax grow in size and importance.
34 Death of King Lammeras. Lammeras' grandson, Prince Keelarin, is crowned as King Jarrian II, as all of Lammeras' own children are now dead. Jarrian II, a seafaring man, moves the Keoish capital and Royal Court to Gradsul.
38 Death of King Jarrian II. Ten-day reign of King Kayyail the Mad, who is deposed in favour of his brother, Yeamuss. Yeamuss crowned as King Jarrian III.
47 Keoish military explorers in the Lortmils reach Celene.
50 Keoish borders extend into Celene and the Tower of Heavens becomes Keoish.
51 to 53 Keoish military incursions into Celene continue, with the establishment of several garrisons throughout out the central plains there. A trade route is established from Tringlee, along the Silver Path crossing the Lortmils, into Celene.
56 to 57 The Celene trade route is extended through the northern Suss Forest to the Wild Coast. The easternmost garrison of Keoland, Kurawei Keep is established in what will become the town of Fax. The Olvenfolk and the court of Queen Astaranthe retreat into the Welkwood in the face of Keoish expansion.
59 Year of Three Kings: death of Jarrian III. His son, Padrach ascends the throne but dies after 87 days as King, at age 19. King Reichartt is crowned at the age of 11.
87 Davish, Lord of Istivin, allies with the Keoish and, with their support, begins to unify Sterich.
91 King Reichartt is killed in a hunting accident. King Cearain crowned in Niole Dra.

The Years of the Aerdi Wars
93 King Cearain sends Keoish troops to aid Celene settlers against a small Aerdi invasion force gathering on the northern foothills of the Kron range. Outnumbered, outmanoeuvred and surprised by the Keoish intervention, the Aerdi force is routed, suffering heavy losses.
94 As the importance of sea trade increases, Cearain moves the Keoish court to Gradsul, although Niole Dra is still the official capital.

[Aerdi send Shield Army west of the Velverdyva, slowly taking the lands from the Nyr Dyv to the Lorridges.]

97 With all Sterich now united, Davish becomes the first Earl of Sterich, now a vassal state of Keoland.
99 [Kvittri appointed first Legate of Ferrond.]
101 Border skirmishes between Ferrond and the petty lords west of the Fals Gap. Shield Army retreats as Kvittri establishes the Overking's Lortmils Army. Kvittri's heavy-handed rule and high taxes are unpopular with the people, but pleases the Overking.
103 Drow Incursions in Sterich, as the Eilservs send war-parties from Enclave. They carry out merciless attacks on isolated villages, and massacre one southern Stericher Olven settlement. Earl Davish allies with the mountain Dwer of the Jotens, but is killed at the Battle of Jarlsberg, at the source of the river that will bear his name. His son, Eathain, fights a successful counterinsurgent campaign against the Eilservs, but fails to find their hidden base.
104 Jalvarn, Legate of Ferrond, leads the people of Mitrik in rebellion, declaring independence from the Aerdi. He sends ambassadors to Keoland to gain assistance.

[The Shield Army is despatched, aiding the Lortmil Army to end the rebellion before it starts in earnest. Jalvarn is captured and 'walked' to Rauxes as an example, being tortured in every town on the way and healed before moving on.]

105 Humanoid troops, led by the Drow, capture the Sterish mountain hold of Weissflewen, and hold it against Eathain's besieging army, who are forced to retreat in the autumn.

[On arrival in Rauxes, Jalvarn is tortured to the point of death and healed for 101 days, the inspiration for Ivid's Endless Death, before finally being executed by slow burning. News of his death causes rioting in western Ferrond.]

106 Keoland refuse Overking's demands to surrender Jalvarn's emissaries for punishment. Lortmil Army carries out a series of punitive raids into Celene as a warning against possible Sheldomar involvement in continued hostilities in Ferrond.
107 General Heissricht is appointed commander of King Cearain's Northern Army, and sent again to aid the Celene settlers as Aerdi troops build up in southern Ferrond and Voll. As Ferrondese nobles revolt against the invasion, Keoish, Velunese and Ferrond troops attack the thinly spread Lortmils Army throughout the Velverdyva basin. The Lortmil Army, now over-stretched and outnumbered, retreats and consolidates across the Velverdyva River. General Heissricht refuses to advance across this line, as news arrives of the Aerdi fleet being despatched across the Nyr Dyv. Combined army retreats into Celene, where the rebel Ferrond nobles are sheltered.
108 Treaty of Enstad signed by King Cearain and the first Viceroy of Ferrond, Kallvri, establishing borders between Celene and Ferrond, and ensuring peace in this area. Rebellious Ferrond nobles are permitted to return to their homes, although several mysteriously die over the next few decades.

The Years of Strife
109 In Sterich, Eathain leads a small force to attack the Drow-held Weissflewen, using a secret Dwer pass to surprise them. Firing the fort, Eathain drives out the Drow and catches them in an ambush. The survivors are then hunted down by the Dwerfolk as they flee back to the hidden Ess'karn.
112 Keoish troops carry out a forced march into the Eomanry under General Heissricht, surprising the Eomen and quickly take Loftwick. The Keoish troops secure the mountainous border areas against humanoid incursions and initially gain favour with the natives, trading foreign items and bringing new farming methods to the isolated land. Heissricht 'persuades' the Eomen to submit to Keoish rule, and becomes the Keoish Spokesman to their Council. In return, the Eomen are entitled to send ambassadors to the court of King Cearain.
129 King Cearain dies. King Jahnnik crowned in Gradsul.
132 Ruah, son of Eathain of Sterich, disappears with a war band hunting Euroz in the Crystalmists. Unknown to all he has become a half-vampire under the Dark Lord Markov, who rules over the Schvartsryche Valley in the Crystalmists west of the south-western tip of Sterich. Ruah's elder brother, Pyetre, becomes Earl when his father dies that winter.
153 Death of Heissricht in Loftwick.
158 The Cold Winter - all of the Sheldomar is struck from Ready'reat through to Coldeven by an unusually cold and vicious winter. Fatalities among humans are high as wolves, humanoids and monsters come down from the mountains, raiding frontier towns. Chuinnar Yarkzik, a Captain in the Guard of Earl Pyetre of Sterich, is made Lord of Kstavidra, in northern Sterich, after saving his master when they are attacked by a White Dragon.
178 Adventurers following the trail of Earl Ruah enter the Schvartsryche Valley, raiding Markov Keep before being killed, with only their thief, T'uun, escaping.
184 T'uun the Mad is found in Loftwick, wearing Earl Ruah's ducal signet ring. After clerical healing, although still insane from his experiences, he imparts enough information to lead the Sterish to the Schvartsryche Valley.
185 Ruah's youngest brother, Tarchin, leads a party to the Schvartsryche Valley, where they attack Markov Keep. Despite serious losses, they kill Lord Markov. Ruah, now a full vampire, escapes unseen at nightfall.
187 Professors at the Royal University of Niole Dra abandon the archaic and unworkable Suel number system, using the easier and more flexible 'Ekbir' system. Almost immediately, advances in numerical sciences result at a great pace.
189 Gradsul officially becomes the capital of Keoland.
193 Countess Llyra of Jurnre builds the famous Quarry Garden in that city.
211 Grain blight strikes Ferrond, leading to the food riots. Viceroy Labgain's barbarous response with the massacre at Littleberg, causes rebellion across Ferrond. Bisselites secretly aid western Ferrond in open revolt.
213 [As rebellions continue across Ferrond, Viceroy Labgain is seized by an angry mob in Crockport. As his bodyguards watch on, helpless to intervene, Labgain is lynched in the street. His successor, Stinvri, orders no repercussions, and uses tax money to import grain from the east to feed the starving and re-seed the fields. Slowly the rebellions settle, although western Ferrond remains a hotbed of political dissent.]
218 Mysterious deaths and disappearances begin along the Yeomanry's border with the Crystalmists. Amid hysterical panic, due to rumours of widespread vampirism, King Jahnnik the Enduring sends his Royal Guard, along with Yoelinn, a High Priestess of Pelor.
219 King Jahnnik the Enduring dies. King Veylahm crowned.

Vampire attacks in Yeomanry fall, as Ruah is hunted in the mountains by Keoish troops. Ruah sends his most minions, including his most powerful half-vampire, to attack Yoelinn's camp. They are destroyed, and when the attacks stop, the Keoish believe they have killed the Vampire Lord, and return to a hero's welcome in Loftwick. Ruah moves south then east, settling in the Hool Marshes at the edge of the Tors.

221 The White Scourge, a disease brought in by a Keoish explorer ship from the Amedio jungle, strikes Gradsul, killing thousands before the city is closed. Those unable to afford clerical cures are forced by a besieging Royal army to remain within the city walls for the next two years, before the plague is declared over.

The Years of Rebellion
223 Yoelinn becomes the first woman Freeholder for the Yeomanry.
225 Death of King Veylahm. King Vainnean crowned in Gradsul.
228 Lord Gaillen of Oestrygge, in north-western Sterich, rebels against the Earl of Sterich over taxes. His people rebel with him. Earl Harlvarr sends troops to subdue the rebellion, but Gaillen's troops outmanoeuvre them, continually retreating from a full battle while carrying out lightning raids and cutting their lines of supply. As the Sterish army retreats, Gaillen strikes hard and routes the army.
229 As Harlvarr receives the Count of Mittveld to negotiate for Keoish troops to supplement his own, in an attempt to defeat Gaillen, the western Lord appears at the Earl's Court. Demanding trial by combat, as is his right, he bests the Earl's champion, and returns to Oestrygge absolved of his crime. Oestrygge is now free of payment of taxes and tithes to the Earl.
230 Gaillen narrowly survives an assassination attempt by two female assassins posing as courtesans. One kills herself, but the other survives, and is forced to reveal Harlvarr as her patron. Gaillen takes the assassin before the Rychskurt and is granted leave to fight Harlvarr himself in trial by combat. Harlvarr, fearful of Gaillen's skill, flees Istivin on Gaillen's approach. By default, Gaillen becomes Earl of Sterich and takes Harlvarr's wife, Shalran, as his own, sending their children into exile.
232 Harlvarr, in exile in Jurnre with his sons, is betrayed by his brother, Jurrsitt. Gaillen confronts them, killing Harlvarr's sons and badly wounding Harlvarr, who manages to retreat to his room. He locks himself inside and, with Gaillen breaking down the door, poisons himself. Gaillen rewards Jurrsitt by making him Lord of Oestrygge.
233 [The Twin Kings in Rauxes, Dellween and Frether of the House Rax-Nyrond, order the reinstatement of the ancient Suel custom of "Bride Tribute". All nobles are required to send their firstborn daughter to Rauxes, to become consorts to the Twin Kings.]
235 Shalran bears Gaillen a son, Dourikk. She then poisons him, setting up Jurrsitt as his murderer. Jurrsitt is executed and Shalran becomes effective ruler of Sterich pending her son's coming of age. She brings her daughters out of exile, marrying them to Sheldomar nobles. Over the coming years she systematically causes the death or downfall of all of Gaillen's family.

The Years of the Dark Necromancer
238 Death of Vainnean. Cearain II crowned in Gradsul.

[Stinvri refuses to send his daughter, Ffyona, to Rauxes. Enraged at Stinvri's refusal, the Twin Kings send their Shield Lands Army to punish him].

239 As humanoid raids into northern Keoland increase from the Rushmoors, the Northern Baronies are established, being a strip of small baronies along the border with the Rushmoor. Palizier family constructs Rushmoor Castle in the Barony of Ammar.

[Thrommel, son of Stinvri, flees Chendl with his sister before arrival of the Shield Lands Army. Stinvri is placed under house arrest.]

240 Humanoid troops, governed by the Vampire Lord Ruah, plague the Yeomanry with ferocious raids. Yoelinn, now elderly and retired, comes out of retirement to lead the Yeomen against these humanoids. Despite defeating their disordered army at the Battle of Auger Tor, Yoelinn is killed in the confusion of battle by Ruah. Having gained revenge, Ruah leaves the humanoids to their deaths and moves east into the Hool Marshes.

[Thrommel is captured by the Shield Land Army. He escapes when his escort to Chendl is attacked by the Lorridge Popular Front, a rebel group enlisted to his aid by his sister. Thrommel and the LPF attempt to rescue his father, only to discover Stinvri was executed long before, and they narrowly miss capture in the trap set for them in Chendl]

242 Formation of the King's Fenmen, under Baron Palizier, after successes against the Rushmoor humanoids. Baron Palizier captures the Faeyrun Witch, who was terrorising villages bordering the Rushmoor. As she is burned at the stake, she curses the Palizier line to "damnation from insanity and undeath".

[Thromell returns to Mitrik to muster an army against the Aerdi. Several units of the Lortmils Army defect to his side, and he amasses several small victories west of the Velverdyva.]

244 [Thromell starts campaigning east of the Velverdyva, easily taking Verbobonc, where he is welcomed. The Lortmils Army now exists only in name. The Shield Lands Army besieges Mitrik in his absence, but turns south to winter at Veluna City when it fails to fall.]
248 [At her brother's bidding, Ffyona heads north into Perrenland, enlisting mercenaries there. The second army amasses at Mitrik, and marches in late spring on Chendl. As the Shield Land Army retreats to Chendl, Thrommel's force mounts several small attacks, harrying it and slowing it down. On arrival at Chendl, the Shield Land Army find Chendl is held by the Mitrik Army. With Thrommel not far behind, General Kaorell turns south, making a forced march to Littleberg. The Twin Kings refuse to send reinforcements to Kaorell.]
249 [A game of cat and mouse ensues between Kaorell and Thrommel, with neither gaining the upper hand. Both suffer defeats and losses, Thrommel losing Chendl once more, and Kaorell fails to make any headway into the Mitrik area. Thrommel holds the area west of the Velverdyva, where his main support is, while Kaorell's army maintain the area east of the Att River. Thrommel winters in Mitrik, Kaorell halves his force and keeps half at Chendl, the remainder at Littleberg.]
250 Renewed reports of dark events at Dreadwood Castle and the Dark Necromancer. Keoish fail to realise it is the Vampire Lord Ruah. Troops sent from Cryllor fail to return and Olvenfolk in the Dreadwood relocate away from his growing dark power.

[Shield Land Army forced to return east, as humanoid forces muster to north. Ambassadors from the Twin Kings are received by Thrommel in Chendl, their corpses soon returned east to Rauxes as Thrommel refuses to pledge loyalty. As the humanoids cross the Ritensa to engage Kaorell, Thrommel retakes Chendl, and takes Littleberg from General Gassain, who is captured. The remainder of the Shield Land Army retreats to Willip, and Thrommel takes Crockport and Grabford unchallenged.]

251 The second Baron Palizier and the King's Fenmen are sent against the Dark Necromancer. The Baron and his forces disappear, although Olven scouts report Dreadwood Castle is razed to the ground and the Dark Necromancer's atrocities end. The King's Fenmen are disbanded as only 3 return, and are replaced by the Northern Company.

[Thrommel takes Dyvers, and using its small fleet, blockades Willip, also besieging it from the land. The Dyvers fleet are defeated by the Overkings' Nyr Dyv fleet, but they are unable to halt the siege of Willip]

252 [The humanoids subdued, Kaorell returns to Willip with reinforcements. He meets with Thrommel, and they plot to surmount the Twin Kings' will by treachery. Kaorell secretly marries Thrommel's sister, and reports to the Overkings that Thrommel has submitted. They create a simulacrum of Ffyona, who is then escorted by a platoon of Companion Guards back to Rauxes. On crossing the Nyr Dyv, before suspicions are aroused, the simulacrum attacks her guard, who are forced to kill her.]
253 [Thrommel and Kaorell continue feigning allegiance to the Overkings, while building up their armies and resources for independence. Thrommel sends envoys to Keoland to enlist aid and support.]
254 [Ferrond becomes independent with the crowning of Thrommel I. Kaorell, General of the new Kingdom of Furyondy, directs his armies, including Ketish and Perrendish mercenaries, demi-humans of the Lortmils and Highfolk battalions, toward the Shield Lands border, threatening Critwall from west of the Veng. Kaorell expels former Aerdi troops and commanders unwilling to ally with the new King, letting the weakened Shield Land Army see what lies in store for them should their new commanders in Admundfort choose to attack. The Overkings are unable to send forces to stop the insurrection.]
256 [Thrommel I dies unexpectedly, some speculate at the hands of the Overking's assassins.]
258 As Keoish nobles grow in power, King Cearain II creates a larger standing Royal army for his own use.
263 Veluna becomes independent from Furyondy, with Keoish assistance.
272 Royal troops from Flen, supported by local Olvenfolk, retake the area around Dreadwood Castle. They find the Dark Necromancer, who is in fact the Vampire Lord Ruah of Sterich, still exists. They apparently defeat Ruah and his undead minions, who are the remnants of Baron Palizier and his Fenmen. Dreadwood Keep, a Royal Garrison, is built near the ruins of the old Dreadwood Castle, and soon becomes a punishment posting for Keoish troops.
279 Death of King Cearain II. King Cearain III crowned in Gradsul.
293 Death of King Cearain III. King Dorann crowned in Gradsul.

The Years of the Jmarva
300 Under Dorann, Keoland continues to expand northward.
302 Dorraon Sellark, heir to the County of Flen, meets the Jmarvic Prophet-Priest Zaethusalah in Thornward, and joins his sect.
307 As Dorraon becomes Count of Flen upon the death of his father, he introduces the popular Zaethusalah to the Suel nobility of northern Keoland. The worship of the Jmarva by the northern nobles becomes popular.
309 Death of King Dorann. King Eoghain crowned in Gradsul.

318 Royal troops corner Zaethusalah and some of his followers in the Tarskling area of Niole Dra. An attempt to smoke him out leads to the burning of the house he hid within, but no sign of the prophet.
320 Keoish troops defeat the forces of Count Dorraon of Flen and the followers of the Jmarva in the Battle of Mittelkreuze. Zaethusalah is sighted within the camp of Dorraon, and both flee west with prices on their head. The County of Flen is seized by the crown.
321 From the north, Baklunish raiders increase attacks on settlements south of the Bramblewood.
322 Count Dorraon is captured by bounty hunters after a minor battle in the Sterish mountain town of Gruunberg. His followers are killed, but there is no sign of Zaethusalah.
323 En route to trial in Gradsul, Dorraon is killed during an attack on his prison escort. The attacks are blamed on a conspiracy by the Priesthood of the Old Faiths, comprising the Old Sueloise Gods, Lendor and Wee Jas, and the Oeridian deities.
328 A series of assassinations of priests of the Old Faiths culminates with the open murder of the Javvron, High Priest of Lendor, by a group of Knights of Kord within the Temple of Lendor in Gradsul. King Eoghain orders the murderers to be hunted down.
333 Five men are tried and hanged in Gradsul for the murder of Javvron, although they are widely believed to be scapegoats. Attacks on priests continue, particularly in the north of Keoland.
334 King Eoghain establishes the Gran March, and the Knights of the March.
338 Zaethusalah and several men believed to be Knights of Kord are ambushed on the Caisteallweg between the town of Temperance and Gradsul. Several Knights are killed, and flee after Zaethusalah is allegedly disintegrated by the Royal Magist Ximbbar.

343 Keoish Royal Army units advance into the Kron Hills and the Lorridges to aid local settlements, human and demi-human, to search out and destroy humanoid lairs.
347 As petty Baklunish states expand to the north of the Gran March, the Knights of the March begin expeditions against these Baklunes to halt their advances.

The Years of the Civil War
348 Death of King Eoghain the Barren who, despite having several consorts was unable to produce an heir to the throne.

Keoish Civil War begins. The southern Counts side with the King's younger nephew, Prince Diurmid, Count of Gradsul who is of House Keoghtain. The northern Counts, and the Counts of Waybury, Jurnre and Sterich side with the King's older nephew, Count Tavish of Axewood, of House Sulekos.

Battle of Wildernfeld sees the forces of House Sulekos routed as they are outflanked by the southern fleet sailing up the Sheldomar and attacking from the rear.

The churches of the Old Gods and the Oeridian Deities back Diurmid, causing Tavish to destroy their temples and churches within his reach in northern Keoland, using their treasures to arm and pay his men.

Adventurers open the Lofty Trail through the Stark Mounds into what is now Geoff, reporting the open plains and a loose confederation of mixed Flan and Oeridian people living there, known as the Kallich, to a disinterested Keoish court.

349 Tavish openly converts to the Jmarvic faith, supporting their cause against the Old Faiths.

A mysterious mentor leads Tavish to the lost Olven Blade, S'ealaraq (Fatebringer). The Olven leaders of Silverwood and Axewood recognise Tavish as their liege and join the Sulekos forces, helping them to halt an army of Old Faith troops on the plains south of Niole Dra.

Frontier barons on the Keoish coast west of the Javan River, of mainly Oeridian stock, take the opportunity presented by the Keoish Civil War to declare independence from the Keoish, extending their holdings west into what will become the Hold of the Sea Princes.

350 Tavish marches on Gradsul with his new allies and a holy army of the new Jmarvic faith. After routing Diurmid's forces in the Battle of Riversmeet, Tavish uses S'ealaraq to kill Diurmid in an organised duel.

Beginning of Keoish Imperialism as Tavish I of the House Sulekos assumes the throne. Tavish I returns Keoish court to Niole Dra and is crowned there.

The High Priests of the Old Faiths and most southern nobles swear allegiance to Tavish and are pardoned for their actions in the Civil War, after Tavish imposes heavy fines to finance his planned invasion of Bissel and to build Jmarvic temples in many Keoish towns. His mentor, now officially the King's High Priest, is revealed to be Zaethusalah.

The power of the Old Faiths is broken forever in all of Keoland, apart from isolated Cryllor who do not fully accept the new religion. Tavish continues to hunt down those nobles who will not ally with him.

The Knights of Kord, based in the western Keoish town of Flen, become Tavish's personal bodyguard.

Needing new lands to gift those who supported him, Tavish directs the Royal Army, under the command of the Knights of the March, to march north into Bissel and conquer the Baklunish tribes settled there. Veluna protests against these moves, but is ignored.

Skirmishes between Royal Army patrols and the Velunese Army in the northern Kron Hills leads to what is generally recognised as the start of the Short War.

The Years of Expansion
351 In order to gain favour with the nobles of Keoland, Tavish undertakes the Land Reforms, creating the Lendskurt (Land Court) in Gradsul, a court of nobles which must approve all changes in title. The Counties of Axewood and Tringlee awarded to the Olven Lords of Axewood and Silverwood respectively for their assistance in the Civil War. The heirs of Dorraon, House Sellark, are awarded the County of Gradsul in recognition for his martyrdom.

A flotilla of ships belonging to Keoish nobles fails in an attempt to recover coastal lands, west of the Javan river, from the renegade barons. Hold of the Sea Princes formed in coalition between these former Keoish barons and local Pirate Lords, ruling from a court in Port Toli.

The lands now known as Bissel are secured by the Keoish, and part of his army turns to the Velunese 'threat', striking east toward Veluna City. As the northern conquests continues, reports of Keoish atrocities against the Baklunish reach Niole Dra.

Tavish sends troops through the Lofty Trail but they are halted by fierce kilted warriors in the higher passes.

352 In southern Veluna, the Royal Army lays siege to Veluna City.

Work begins on the Dorraon Cathedral in Flen, dedicated to Kord and the Jmarvic Gods.

Keoish scouts fail to find a safe pass through the Stark Mounds for Tavish's army, most not returning from their forays.

Watchtowers are built along the March of Bissel's northern border, and manned by native Bisselites, and the Border Watch. is formed.

Northern outposts in Celene expel Royal Army garrisons due to conflict with Velunese and atrocities in Baklunish campaign.

353 Continued expulsion of Royal Army garrisons in Celene, and latterly in the Ulek States, threatens Keoish lines of supply to southern Veluna.

Siege of Veluna City continues. Furyondy voices its disapproval and beseeches King Tavish to withdraw. At the Battle of Caalander, south of Veluna City, an army from Verbobonc engages and is defeated by the Keoish Royal Army. A division of the Keoish Army then pursues the survivors back to Verbobonc, which is also placed under siege.

In the face of a Keoish invasion, Joggr'adin, Amir of Molvar, unites the Baklunish people north of the Bramblewood to found the state of Ket.

Tavish sends a small army through the Lofty Trail to fight the Kallich. Despite being outnumbered and outmatched magically, the Kallich hold out until winter when the Keoish are forced to retreat.

354 Completion of the Dorraon Cathedral. The remains of Dorraon are moved there and he is acclaimed a Saint of the Jmarvic faith.

At the start of spring a small Keoish army march north through the Lofty Trail unmolested. On arriving in the Kallich capital of Gorna they find many of the inhabitants have left, heading south into the Crystalmists with the Stone of Destiny and their leader, the Riak.

Veluna City and Verbobonc continue to hold out against the besieging Eastern Army, who are finding life increasingly difficult due to low supplies, many soldiers deserting and returning home. As the Kron Hills and Lortmils are closed to the Keoish, their only supply route is now through the Fals Gap.

356 Keoland at peak, ruling from the Pomarj to the Crystalmists, and threatening Ket, Veluna and Verbobonc.

During the Great Storm, King Tavish I is shipwrecked off the Gradsul coast. He survives, but the Olven Blade, S'ealaraq, is lost at sea. Some believe that the loss of this blade is responsible for the subsequent decline of the Keoish Empire.

The town of Gorna is fortified and surrounding area is settled as the County of Gorna.

A Furyondyan Army amasses on the Velverdyva to relieve Veluna City and Verbobonc, demanding the Keoish withdraw. Tavish withdraws part of the Northern Army, now pushing north of the Bramblewood, and sends it into Veluna to reinforce his troops. The army besieging Verbobonc withdraws to Veluna City as their supplies fail. Over the winter, the inhabitants of Veluna City surrender to the Keoish.

The Years of Advancement
365 Battle at Kayrond's Tor - a platoon of Border Watch guards hold a small Ketish force at bay in the Kayrond Pass, in the north-east Barrier Peaks for two weeks until reinforcements arrive.
368 Jebli Wars start in Geoff, after adventurers discover the hidden warren of the Jebli in the Crystalmists, near to human villages. The Jebli King, Ma'urwat, leads an army to avenge the dead from this incursion, raiding villages by night.
369 Grand Duke Geoff is killed during the Battle of Murmurstream, during which the Jebli army is scattered. His son, Theon, renames the Duchy after his father, and sends his soldiers into the mountains to hunt down the Jebli, posting rewards for each Jebli killed, and for their King.
370 In the wake of the defeats in the north, Tavish sets about improving roads, bridges, dams and border fortifications throughout the Empire, purportedly to enhance trade, which he encourages even with former enemies such as Veluna and Ket. Secretly, he continues designs for the expansion of the Empire.
371 Adventurers kill the Jebli King Ma'urwat. His head is preserved, and displayed outside the gates of the Grand Duke's Castle in Gorna.
372 Work begins by Dwer engineers on the Mittelkreuze Canal, from Niole Dra on the Sheldomar, to Cryllor on the Javan.
373 Tavish establishes Keoland's first formal naval fleet, to counter increasing piracy along the southern coast.
374 The Mittelkreuze Canal reaches the Good Hills.

As King Tavish grows old and wandered, his aides do all they can to prevent him from starting another war. Crown Prince Garrik, who, having seen the slaughter at Molvar first hand, does not share his father's imperialist dream, practically rules the country in his stead. In respect for his father, and in fear of open rebellion due to his popularity, Garrik does not force his abdication.

378 Using a series of locks, the Mittelkreuze Canal traverses the Good Hills.

The siege of Loftwick, by Hill Giants from the Jotens, ends in their defeat as the Yeomen unite, under the Arch-Mage Shellri, against this enemy. This breaks the Giants' power along the Jotens border for over two centuries.

380 Mittelkreuze Canal officially opened in Cryllor by King Jahnnik, improving trade from Sterich and the Yeomanry to the east.
381 Crown Prince Garrik dies, rumoured to have been poisoned by his half-brother, now heir, Prince Vladimir (a known worshipper of Hextor).

The Years of Carnage
392 A month of mourning in northern Keoland as Tavish I dies in his sleep at the newly built Sheldomar Palace in Niole Dra, his Imperialistic dreams unrealised. Prince Vladimir, a veteran of the Northern Army in the Short War, is crowned as Tavish II in Niole Dra, after exiling Zaethusalah and the Knights of Kord from Niole Dra following a bitter argument. He creates the Knights of the Red Arrow, a Hextorian cult, as his personal bodyguard. Brought up on his father's dreams of Imperial expansion, he too continues planning for invasions of his neighbouring states.

Tavish II imposes harsh taxes upon his realms to fund his preparations for his planned invasions. Outspoken critics of his taxes are dealt with harshly, and often openly, by the Knights of the Red Arrow, and the King soon earns the epithet. 'Bloodking'.

393 The Bloodking sends out troops into Celene and the Pomarj, and launches an invasion of the southern Wild Coast. The Celene army quickly become drawn into a constant war of attrition with the humanoids of the southern Suss, which will last for over ten years without any gain. The Pomarj army quickly succeed in taking Eldredd, but thereafter falter when the petty lords of the Wild Coast are united under Count Hal II of Fax and hold them outside Badwall.

The Knights of Kord ride out from their base in Flen, at Zaethusalah's bidding, to south-western Sterich to investigate claims of a Beltarin cult operating there. They discover a hidden Beltarin Temple deep underground in the mountains, near to the village of Taorridon. It is tended to by a Conclave of Suel Priests and worshipped by many twisted humans and Dwer who live in that area. They destroy the Temple, although only three Knights survive the journey back, being constantly harried by the worshippers under the guidance of the surviving Beltarin priest and priestesses.

A minor rebellion by southern nobles of House Rhola is crushed in a savage manner, as the Royal Army sent to quell it defeats their soldiers, then attacks all settlements in their lands, destroying those members of the rebellious families who do not flee.

394 The publishing of Pontus Hardiggin's, halfling traveller extraordinaire, journals and his description of Esmerin, "the land of giants and halflings in the Lortmils."

A force lead by Knights of Kord returns to Taorridon, where they find only the sick and elderly remain, slowly dying. The other villagers have gone deeper into the mountains to escape persecution.

395 Grand Duke Choinnich of Geoff defeats a marauding Jebli army at the Battle of Boddan Moor.
412 The merging of the Knights of the March and the Border Watch sees the formation of the Order of the Watch in Bissel, with new Watchtowers and keeps being built along Bissel's borders with Ket and Veluna.
419 Sea Princes settlers reach the source of the Hool River, Lake Spendlowe . The Hool River becomes the new western border of the Hold.
428 Foldvar Skotti, illegitimate son of the heir to the throne, Prince Vayann, and Lady Almaya Skotti of Selkitz, is born in Gradsul.
431 Due to increased Ketish border raids into northern Bissel, the numbers of the Knights of the Watch are increased.
433 First written reference to the 'Common Tongue' used by merchants in Thornward in the diary of Jerrelain, a priest of Celestian. At this point there is no written language.
435 As the Bloodking increases patrols in the Lorridges and Kron Hills near to the Velunese border, Veluna objects and demands the withdrawal of Keoish troops. Tensions in the area rise when Tavish II refuses, and minor skirmishes break out when the Keoish and Velunese troops meet.
436 As rumours of a planned Keoish invasion sweep through southern Veluna, the Treaty of Littleberg is signed, pledging mutual aid between Veluna and Furyondy.

The Knights of the Watch, who were friendly with many Velunese border nobles, are horrified by the Bloodking's apparent designs on their neighbour. Their Grand Master, Harleettan of Jurnre, does everything in his limited power, short of treason, to prevent his knights' involvement, and secretly petitions the other Sheldomar states to protest to the King.

Signing the Fax Accord, Keoland makes peace with the nobles of the southern Wild Coast, and pledges money to Count Hal III of Fax to build a large harbour in the town, in preparation for supplying his planned expansions.

437 Harleettan of Jurnre is exiled from Keoland after his activities in trying to prevent a Keoish invasion of Veluna are discovered. He travels, with many disillusioned Knights of the Watch, to Chendl where he acts as advisor to the Furyondyan King. The military harbour in Fax is completed, and Tavish begins to send 'military advisors' to oversee his supply operations there. Wagon trains with months of supplies are sent into eastern Celene, and then north to the Kron Hills.

A comet, actually the spaceship Violante, falls into the Barrier Peaks. As crops fail in Bissel and Geoff, and livestock miscarry in Ull and among the Paynims, this is regarded as an evil omen. The agricultural difficulties arise from radiation leaked from the Violante.

The Years of Exclusion
439 Forbidden to do so during his father's life, Tavish III marries. Unknown to him, he has been seriously affected by the radiation from the Violante and is incapable of fathering children.

The few remaining Knights of Kord begin to hunt down cultists within the Keoish interior, discovering a Beltarin plot among the southern nobles to overthrow House Sulekos.

Harleettan of Jurnre returns to Thornward and is reinstated as Grand Master of the Order of the Watch by popular demand.

Food riots in Gorna, Shibboleth, Waybury, Flen and Cryllor as crops fail for the third successive year. Increasing conflict between Keoish troops and starving peasants in these areas. Birth rate falls drastically in the northern Keoish states, and infant mortality is very high, due to the effects of the Violante's fallout. Tavish III spends the next decade trying to hold the Kingdom together, and the Keoish satellite states become increasingly independent.

Knights of the Watch are independent of Keoish sovereign, and concentrate on the Ketish threat. The Sterish and Geoffite troops return home, disillusioned by the poor state of Keoish leadership.

Keoland permits the Gran March to elect its own Commandant, Baron Ettawin of Tuirneham, for the first time.

Death of Ongror of Loftwick, the most renowned painter of his time.

442 Ex-Count Karlas of Dreadwood assists Sea Princes in raids along southern coast of Keoland.

Keoland and its dependent Ulek states remain under a state of military rule as food difficulties continue. Tavish III abandons attempts to reclaim Bissel as endless rebellions throughout Keoland require his troops more urgently.

444 As Sea Princes' raids increase along the coast from Gradsul to Gryrax, Keoland and the Duke of Ulek construct the Heliographs, a chain of garrisoned Watchtowers along the southern coast of the Azure Sea. Each one has a giant mirror (and magical light) and fire beacon, allowing rapid non-magical communication of attacks and fleets between all coastal towns. Dundorian (on the Ulek side of the Sheldomar, across from Gradsul) is fortified.
445 As food difficulties continue, the Keoish satellite states become increasingly independent, relying on imported food to survive.

A small military expedition sent into the Yeomanry, to reassert Keoish rule, quickly retreats as the citizens rise against them with great fervour.

After the sacking of Gryrax then Gradsul by the Sea Princes, Tavish III rebuilds the Keoish fleet in an attempt to stave off their attacks. A survivor of the sea battle off Gradsul, Lord Foldvar Skotti, is given his first full command of a warship at the age of seventeen.

446 Rise of the Sea Princes as their pirating successes bear fruit; Karlas of Dreadwood is appointed Prince of Westkeep.

The 15th Queen of Celene, Astaranthe aids a large group of High elves from the north-eastern Ulek province of the weakened Kingdom of Keoland, along with a group of disaffected Suel and Dwer from the southern hill range of the Lortmils to form their own independent governments. In doing so, Astaranthe opens the Court of Celene for the first time in hundreds of years to contact with the outside world.

447 Yeomanry completely closes off borders to Keoish rule.

Duelling becomes popular among the Sea Princes.

First major Keoish success against the Sea Princes at the Battle of Nerull's Point. A naval patrol led by a young Captain, Foldvar Skotti, Lord of Selkitz, is outnumbered five to two, but sinks the Prince of Monmurg's flagship, and cripples another two of his warships. He then rescues most of their sister ship's sailors and, severely damaged, is carried by the currents back to a hero's welcome in Seaton.

448 As radiation from Violante eases off, crop and livestock yields improve in affected areas, but not enough to stop imports of food.
449 Shalab'adin, half-Ketish professor of Economics at the Royal University of Niole Dra writes his book, 'On the Importance of a Common Tongue for Trade between the Nations of the Flanaess'. This is generally recognised as the first step in the intentional development of the Common Tongue.

Keoish Royal Treasury is in great difficulties due to the high maintenance costs of the Royal army. Tavish III looks to expansion for increasing his funds.

450 Border conflicts between Keoland and Geoff, ending with the Sterish threatening rebel against the King unless hostilities cease. Treaty of Gorna defines border between the two nations as the Javan river, allowing Keoland to build the town of Hochoch. Trading with Hochoch takes place via a trail through the edges of the Oytwood.
452 Tavish III plans invasion of the Hold of the Sea Princes to improve his financial situation, and also to punish the traitor Karlas.
453 Keoish invasion fleet easily take Flotsom Island, using it as a stepping stone to sail past Monmurg and attack Westkeep. As they attack, the Keoish realise they were given Flotsom to buy the Sea Princes more time, but continue, besieging the vulnerable town. King Tavish is killed in a surprise attack on his encampment, when reinforcements from Monmurg arrive earlier than anticipated. The Keoish are routed overland in disarray, and would have been massacred but for their daring rescue by the Keoish fleet under Lord Admiral Foldvar Skotti.

The Years of Restitution
454 Lord Admiral Skotti escorts King Tavish III's body to Niole Dra, where the Lendskurt convene to choose a new King, as Tavish III died childless. There, Lord Admiral Skotti reveals himself to be the illegitimate son of King Tavish III, kept secret from the King and his father for fear of their actions.

After authentication of the story, and major concessions granting more autonomy to the nobles of Keoland, Foldvar is crowned in Niole Dra as King Tavish IV, soon to be known popularly as Tavish the Sound.

Tavish abandons the blood-soaked name of Sulekos for his mother's family name, Skotti, declaring Keoland's aggressive policies ended. He begins talks with the Ulek Provinces and the Yeomanry, leading to autonomous status with the former, and improved relations with the Yeomen.

Following these concessions, the Lendskurt becomes the true power within Keoland.

457 Despite the cessation of hostilities by the Keoish, Sea Princes raids on the southern coast continue. At the Battle of Jetsom Island the Sea Princes fleet is defeated after a long, fierce battle with a combined fleet of warships from Keoland and the Principality of Ulek, led by King Tavish IV.

Seeking to end the war, Tavish IV concedes part of southern Keoland, between the River Dunwater and the Javan, to the Sea Princes in the Treaty of Monmurg. At the same time, through the Lendskurt he creates the Southern Baronies in an attempt to create a buffer zone with the Sea Princes.

Karlas of Westkeep dies under suspicious circumstances.

458 Tavish IV begins the Weimarn Renaissance in Keoland as he funds the formalisation of the 'Common' trade language used by merchants around the Ket - Bissel - Veluna area.

As settlers move into the area around Hochoch, Tavish appoints his favoured General, Jakba of Flen as Duke of Hochoch. Rumour has it that this is a reward for the secretive murder of the traitor Karlas.

459 Tavish IV extends the Heliographs along the castles and keeps of the Caisteallweg, to give fast communication from one end of Keoland to the other.
461 After negotiations involving Duke Grenowin of Ulek, Tavish IV recognises the Olven nation of Celene for the first time, sending ambassadors to the Court of Queen Yolande in Enstad.
