"We're great at shagging and we make good cocktails..." [Lauren Laverne]

It's a cat fight as Alisha's Attic battles it out with Kenickie for the hard sell on their respective new albums, both out this month. Ladies, take that floor! WHAT MAKES THE BAND SPECIAL? Shellie Poole, 26, one half of Alisha's Attic: "We have extreme imaginations, so even when life is at its least glamorous, we turn it into a fairytale. We're very positive about life, and this is the message we're sending". Lauren Laverne, 19, lead singer of Kenickie: "We are fantastically talented and very clever. We are the most fantastic and wonderful people you'd ever care to meet personality-wise. We're great at shagging and we make good cocktails." WHAT CAN WE GET FROM THIS ALBUM THAT WE CAN'T GET FIND ANYWHERE ELSE? Alisha's Attic: "We have mixed down-the-line pop tunes with really spiky lyrics. Some of the lyrics are emotional and moving and some are witty. It's a great mixture." Kenickie: "We're like Kelloggs in the cornflake adverts - we don't write songs for anyone else. This is really high-quality music for young women to relate to, not indie pop. My songs are about life and what I know, they're really emotional." HOW WILL YOUR NEW ALBUM TRANSFORM OUR LIVES? Alisha's Attic: "I believe the emotional songs, like Stay, Will You Stay? will really make people cry and they'll connect with the emotion and say, "Oh God, I remember when..." and go off reminiscing. Other songs are really raunchy and sexy." Kenickie: "It will change the way you think about us. It'll destroy the misconception that girl bands go, 'Look at us we've got wombs and we drink white wine'. Owning the album will also make you cooler and more attractive to men." WHY ARE YOU THE BEST FEMALE BAND EVER? Alisha's Attic: "I think Blondie is the best female band ever. But we're good, because we are really talented songwriters." Kenickie: "Of course we're the best ever. Every female band apart from the Supremes has been shit up till now." |
