The Northern Territory is a great place and one of its major attractions are its wilderness areas and Nature Parks. The coolest time to visit is between March and August, this is also the dryest part of the year. If you can handle the heat, September to February is the hotest, wetest and greenest period. When travelling in the NT there are a few precautions to take:
This creek flows into the Katherine River, both are accessible from Katherine Gorge. There are walking trails to this spot from Katherine Gorge and unlike the gorge, 17 Mile Creek rarely sees any visitors. Katherine is approximately 300km south of Darwin and the KAtherine Region is definetely worth a visit.
This country extends forever. Arnhem Land is one of the last untouched frontiers. Some of this region is developed for tourism, however the vast majority is aboriginal land and only accessable via permit.
The Litchfield Escarpment is a popular swimming spot (no crocs, most of the time), 1 hour south of Darwin.
This photo was taken from a helicopter above the township of Jabiru, in Kakadu National Park. Kakadu Township is a good base to explore Kakadu National Park.
