The first match in the National Stages took the team to
Giffnock, where regulars Dianne Taylor, Allison Wood, Fiona Reid and Alison
Reid were joined by Mel Baynton-Campbell and ……., resulting in a 7-2 win.
The 9th June brought a visit from Next Generation of Edinburgh and a hard-fought
win for our team - 5-4! Fiona and Alison split up, with Alison partnering
Liana Park to bring 2 wins, while Fiona and Janet Henderson also recorded
2 wins while Di and Allison, who felt they had both had an off day, recorded
the 5th. Phew!
The semi-final against Blackhall also had its bit of drama
- the result was a 6-0 win, but an injury to Janet Henderson gave cause
for concern with only a week between the semis and the final. Dunfermline
play old rivals Newlands at Craiglockhart on 24 June.
The story has a happy ending -again- as Janet made it
onto court in the final, albeit strapped from ankle to knee, and she and
Liana combined well, with Liana providing the power, and Janet the deft
net touches. They beat the 2s, lost narrowly to the 1s. Dianne and Allison
beat the 2s, lost a tight match to the 1s, while Fiona and Alison led
the team as ever, with 3 solid wins, dropping no sets, and not too many
games. This gives the team 16 wins in the last 20 years, with most of
the team on court in 1988. This is an amazing record for a 'provincial'
team. Well done, everybody not forgetting the reserves Mel Baynton-Campbell
and Alessia Palmieri.
The 2007 winning team: Dianne Taylor,
Janet Henderson, Liana Park, Alison Reid, Fiona Reid and Allison
Wood.

This year's competition was very close, with 3 couples in hot contention
before the final round - Derek Hay and Aileen Tulloch (holders, Aberdour)
Kenny Bryce and Louise Gemmell (Clarkston / Whitecraigs) and Joe Arnott
/ Fiona McLean (Aberdour). Kenny and Louise fell by the wayside in the
final round, while Joe and Fiona won by 1 game from Derek and Aileen.
This was another day of glorious weather, and the visitors enjoyed the
courts - no sore knees in spite of about 4 hours of non-stop tennis.
Dunfermline was represented by Bill Holmes/Sarah Collins and Jim Turnbull/Alessia
Palmieri, with Dalgety Bay's Bob Cooper and Linda Arnott making the 6th
pair.
