Major Export Order for CFM Aircraft Ltd
Leiston, Tuesday 14th September 1999 - CFM Aircraft Limited are pleased to announce the signing of a contract for the supply of Shadow aircraft to the Indian Air Force.
The order, for a total of 24 aircraft to be delivered over a period of 15 months, is almost certainly the biggest single procurement of microlights in the aviation industry.
The contract was won against fierce competition from the microlight manufacturers from around the world. David Moore, Managing Director of CFM Aircraft said: "The fact we have been able to secure this order is a tremendous endorsement of the quality of the Shadow itself and also the skills and commitment of our staff. Over the last two years we have made a significant effort to expand our client base beyond the traditional microlight market of leisure flying. I am delighted that our efforts have resulted in this order."
The aircraft being supplied to the Indian Airforce will be fitted with Rotax 912 80hp four stroke engines and as a result will have exceptional speed and climb performance. They are to be used for local activities at a number of Air Force bases throughout the country.
The Shadow has been in production since 1984 and there are now nearly 400 aircraft flying in some 40 countries around the world. It has enjoyed an exemplary safety record and its flying characteristics are acknowledged to be second to none. The aircraft is available in both kit and completed form.
The Shadow is Type Approved by the Civil Aviation Authority and complies with British Civil Airworthiness Requirements Section S - the world's most stringent microlight airworthiness requirement. CFM Aircraft itself is a CAA A1 Approved Organisation. This level of approval, granted to only a very organisations, allows the company to design, test and manufacture complete aircraft.
CFM Aircraft Limited was formed in 1997 when it took over the business of Metal-Fax Ltd. The company has 10 employees, all of whom live locally. It operates from a 5,000 sq. ft. factory in Leiston, Suffolk, England, and from nearby Framlingham Airfield.
