EASYEST WAY TO RIP DVD TO AVI.

First things first.
We need two program's
DVD to DIVX AVI ENCODER43 (this is the Program that does the magic.)
and
DVD43 (this lets your pc read copy protected dvd's)

Download the above programs and install them
remember .
DVD43 needs to be running when you insert your copy right dvd movie for your pc to read it,,

now lets start..And this is surprisingly easy :)
open DVD TO DIVX AVI ENCODER. A new window will open.

This window is pretty straight forward but lets run through a few things before we start ripping.
The first thing we need to do is make a folder for the avi's to download to..
So go to the hard drive you will be sending the avi's to. (usually c:)
And make a folder I name mine "dvdrip"

now go back to DVD TO DIVX AVI ENCODER, And at the bottom of the window we are looking at. click on Browse.
Then direct it to the folder you have just made.

Now we need to change the Output format To:
"AVI (divx,YUV,XVid....)"

Now lets click on SETTINGS and move on..

Here you can see my settings..
I use 128mb (max) Buffer size. And i have it in my ram..
You can have it on your hard drive. but ram is faster.

As you can see The tick boxes are all empty but you can change that.
And The file splitter is set to infinite.
you can change it to the size of a cd if you like.
And have a higher quality copy split to cd's etcetera..

Lets click on the output tab
Here we can se the settings i have set for the Output file..
I use 640x480 for Tv screen compatibility.
I use PAL as it uses 4 Frames per second less.than ntsc and is more than enough fps.

The audio volume is at 3 as a default but i would not have it louder than 4...

I have also removed the tick from Dolby Surround.
Simply to save space..

Now we click on AVI settings..
As you can see In the Video codec box i have DIVX Codec 4.12
You can experiment with the others later but for now select that.
leave the audio options as they are. And click on configure..

This will open the DIVX Video Codec Configuration window.

We need only pay attention to The top left corner of this window.
variable bit rate mode. (i use 1 pass its faster)

performance/Quality (making it faster decreases quality)
"I select slow for quality reasons"

And output video bit rate.. (this also effects the video quality)
"i use 476 for file size reasons and it gives me reasonable quality"

These settings provide me with reasonable/Acceptable Video quality whilst still keeping the avi at a respectable size..

We can say ok and leave this window.

now lets click on the last tab. (advanced options)

I'm running a pentium D system. ad as such i use the MMX (fastes intel p2 AMD K6) Setting.
You can chose yours depending on your processor.

We do not need a deinterlace filter with the settings we have so that stays at none.

Then the tick boxes work best as shown.

Click ok.
And we are ready to start ripping a movie. (allow 3-5 hours for an average movie)

Insert the movie dvd you wish to copy in to your pc.

Then select LOAD dvd
And find your dvd in the browser and say ok.

This will now populate the screen and it will look the same as the picture on the Left.

As you see the Duration is stated to the right of the title..
You usualy only need a tick in the 1st box (the longest duration)
After that:
Simply click on start and the dvd will begin the ripping process.

(its a good idea to stop the process after it has encoded a few minuets of the avi, and then go play the avi. make sure the quality is of acceptable standard.. If it is not Increase the output video bit rate from the divx codec configuration page)

next time you wish to encode a movie it will all be ready and set up.
