Dear Mrs (QUAFF Member)

Subject: Your phone call today.

I refer to your phone call, by which you requested some information relating to the import of pets into France.

We do not have any specific leaflet relating to this matter. But here are the formalities to be satisfied:

  1. A health certificate delivered (obtained) not more than 5 days prior to departure by the national licensed veterinary of the country of origin (here the Health Ministry) should accompany the animal.
  2. Dogs and cats must be tatooed, or carry a microchip in order to cross the border.
  3. Finally, the pets must be vaccinated against rabies at least one month and no more than one year prior to the entry to France. A valid rabies vaccination certificate - identifying the animal, specifying the date of vaccination and bearing the signature of a licensed British veterinary, should accompany the pet.

Please be aware that a maximum of 3 pets may be imported into France. Among which one kitten or puppy.

I hope this will be of assistance.

Yours Sincerely

Signed by

Philippe Galy

Note by QUAFF

  1. We are sure that 'licensed British vet' means any qualified vet but MAFF clearly interpret it as LVI (Licensed Veterinary Inspector)
  2. MAFF say that we need an 'EXPORT HEALTH CERTIFICATE' which you obtain by ringing your area Animal Health Divisional Office.
