Archives :  1998    1999   2000  2001

21st July 2003: Newsletter 34 and associated flier have been added to Members Page. Note also that we now have a new bulletin board which will hopefully be easier to use than the previous “new” one. Apologies also for the glitch on the website for the past couple of weeks –  we are in the early stages of transferring website responsibilities and the glitch occurred just before a vacation and was not spotted –Simon’s fault entirely!

24th June 2003: The proposed European Union Pet Travel Scheme proposal has recently been printed in the "Official Journal of the European Union" and will thus become effective on 3 Jul 2004.  The legislation is posted on the Member's Page (.pdf format).

17th June 2003: Note that to use the new bulletin board, please sign-up to Akheva as a global user. An access problem has also been reported by a member who was not using IE.

The old board on the World Crossing site has now vanished. A response from World Crossing is awaited.

8th June 2003: A new bulletin board is now available. If World Crossing makes a comeback, the possibility of transferring old posts to the new board will be explored.

8th June 2003:  Bulletin Board has been unavailable for the last few days. Apologies, but this has not been under QUAFF control, and no warning was given by World Crossing that their website would be down. In view of this, a new bulletin board provider is being sought, and a QUAFF board will be available again shortly. Unfortunately, unless World Crossing revives, all previous postings to the board will be lost.

22nd Nov 2002:  Early Release Kennel document updated on Members Page.

21st Nov 2002: The Minister announced today that UK Pet Travel Scheme is to be extended to USA and Canada from 11 December 2002. DEFRA is working on the introduction of the necessary certificates and working with at least one airline to provide the required 'approved' route. It is not known whether both these essentials elements will be in place by 11 Dec. In their absence owners may import pets to a quarantine kennel for 2/3 days and apply for early release.

15th Nov 2002: Details of a Quarantine Kennel experienced in the Early Release procedure and near Heathrow are available on the Member's Page. In addition to a rabies vaccination certificate and blood test result, dogs must have been vaccinated against Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis and Parvovirus.

11th Nov 2002: Members preparing pets for the UK Pet Travel Scheme in US or CANADA are advised to persuade their vets to write the date/month fully (i.e.  5 November 2002) when completing vaccination certificates and blood sample forms.   5-10-2002 may mean MAY to you but it means November in the UK and may cause trouble for pets entering UK under the Early Release scheme.

A FRENCH PET TRAVEL SCHEME.  The French Government  has just introduced new legislation effective from NOVEMBER 2 2002 on the import of a wide variety of animals, including pet dogs and cats,  from countries in which rabies exists. This requires them to be microchipped, vaccinated and a sample drawn (no less than 30 days from the date of vaccination and more than THREE months from the date of import) and tested. A French language  Certificate Sanitaire confirming this must then be completed by your vet. The French Embassy in the country of origin is responsible for providing a translation to help the vet and we are currently trying to obtain an English version. Cats and dogs are also required to have been treated for four further maladies.
