You may have spotted that the above is neither a Simplex or a model. This is in fact a picture of the Glasgow & South Western Railway locomotive No. 9, which was built in 1917 by the North British Locomotive Co. Ltd.

No.9 was one of three locomotives built for dock shunting duties. In 1933 it was sold by the L.M.S. and went to Hafod Colliery, Denbighshire, where it worked for almost 30 years. On the conclusion of its working life the locomotive was given by the National Coal Board to the British Transport Commission for preservation. It was presented to the Museum of Transport, Glasgow in 1966, and has been since restored.

I have included the above picture as I intend building my Simplex to externally resemble this locomotive, as a large number of Simplex models are modified externally to represent either an actual locomotive or type ( I have seen at least one 'GWR pannier tank' Simplex).
