Simon Griffiths FCMA is the founder of The Practical Business Solutions Network.
Having gained an Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering Simon then completed a post graduate Diploma in Management Studies (passed with distinction). He then moved into accountancy gaining membership of the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants. He is now a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants (FCMA) and is registered as a member in practice with that Institute.
Having worked for over 20 years in "Blue Chip" environments e.g. GEC, Shell, Laporte plc etc. Simon can demonstrate practical experience in the Finance, IT and Business Services areas along with in-depth knowledge of profit improvement and business performance enhancement techniques.
In profile he is:
Experienced of all aspects of accountancy particularly financial controls, management accounting, investment appraisal, budgetary control, strategic planning, financial accounting, and treasury management.
Skilled in Business Analysis, Business Process Modelling / Redesign and other cost reduction and business enhancing activities.
Experienced in the implementation and reinstatement of robust Financial Control systems, particularly after ERP system implementation.
Highly computer literate. Experienced in the management of an IT function and the use and implementation of mainframe, PC (Windows Office 97 products) and Client Server based IT systems, most recently SAP/R3.
Innovative with excellent analytical and communication skills oriented to continually improve performance.
Experienced in the running and successful direction of cross-functional project teams.
The following are examples of his achievements:
Reinstated Financial Controls and Procedures within a £30m turnover business following a particularly difficult ERP system implementation (SAP/R3).
Led a cross-functional Business Process Redesign team, which identified significant opportunities for improving business performance valued at £ 2 Million.
"Process Owner" and member of the Steering Group which successfully implemented SAP / R3 within a complex three site business on time and under budget.
In preparation for its sale, restructured one company into two by use of a "hive-down" whilst ensuring that all statutory requirements were met.
Member of a team which successfully restructured an operating site in order to generate fixed cost savings of £ 2.5 Million.
Directed a team, which reviewed the effectiveness of, and recommended changes to, all Supply and Distribution activities.
Reviewed the accounting systems and activity of a European company and recommended efficiency improvements of more than £200K.
Designed and introduced a networked PC based Management Information Systems for use by 30 managers across two operating sites.
Worked as part of a team to formulate policies for employee appraisal and reward.
Acted as the Company focal point for Year 2000 and European Monetary Union issues.
