The Genesis Project As part of our charitable allocations St Chad's has supported the Genesis Project, which provides confidential support, advocacy, and information to women of all ages who are involved in, at risk of becoming involved in, or wishing to exit from, prostitution within the Leeds area. It is also committed to raising awareness in the wider community. Services and support are based on respect and trust, encouraging women to realise their potential and fulfil their goals, founded on a belief in the unique worth of every person. Genesis is located in the city centre, and like many small voluntary sector organisations a particular strength lies in the staff who are completely committed to the women and young people they work with (and the issues they face on a daily basis). With this commitment comes a constant drive to improve the services offered and expand the level of support.

Following both the Government review of prostitution this year and the decision in Leeds to create a Prostitution Strategy Group, the potential to improve our citywide response is there. Genesis is central to this process, ensuring that the women's voices continue to be heard. The level of service provision is extended through a partnership approach. Genesis responds to the ever-growing needs of women involved in the sex industry and young people sexually exploited in our communities - meeting the complex health, social, psychological, and emotional needs of its clients. A new specialist mobile unit enables Genesis to conduct outreach work. Locally women continue to be stalked, harassed, beaten, robbed, and raped on the streets of Leeds each week. Genesis offers a non-judgemental, needs-based, accessible service to women of all ages. Nigel Greenwood |
