St. Chad's Gifting for 2011

We would like to offer our thanks to all those who nominated charities for our charitable allocations. The charities to be supported this year are listed in the adjoining column. We have tried to give to a wide range of causes whilst ensuring that sums substantial enough to be worthwhile are given to each. Upon request we have also attempted to support several new charities this year, including Joanna, a Leeds-based charity supporting women to exit prostitution and the West Yorkshire Community Chaplaincy Project which supports men exiting Armley Prison to resettle into the community.

As the current costs of running the church are exceeding our income from stewardship and other means, the PCC discussed reducing our giving to other charities in light of our poor financial situation. It was agreed that at least for this year we would continue giving 10% of the budget for 2011.

Some of these charities are new to us so we will try to include short accounts of their work in future Parish Magazines. Please look out for them.

Abbie Palmer and Beverly Leech Askey

(for the Community Engagement Committee)

The policy of charitable giving approved by the PCC is as follows:-

•  Charities supported need not have an explicit Christian connection, though all should be carrying out the Christian mission enjoined in Matthew 25: 35-36

•  Local, national, & overseas charities are eligible for support, though no fixed proportion will be assigned to each category

•  Given the limited funds available, preference will be given to smaller (usually local) charities with a limited range of other support, so that our relatively small contribution will make a greater difference

•  Notwithstanding that, small contributions may be given to large Christian charities to indicate continuing support for their mission.

The PCC has endorsed the following allocations made by the Community Engagement Committee:-
