Leeds Faith in Schools (Visit the LFIS website )

Leeds Faith in Schools (LFIS) is a registered charity, directed by Lee Jackson and based in Burley Road. Since 1994 it has existed as a flexible resource to Leeds schools, representing the Christian community and working with young people to provide a model for effective and appropriate behaviour and relationships.

LFIS is non-denominational: the Trustees and workers come form a wide breadth of the Church tradition. The team provides staff to offer input and to work with pupils and teachers in a number of local schools such as Lawnswood, Abbey Grange, Benton Park, Guiseley, and Prince Henry's in Otley. LFIS fulfils the National Curriculum and OFSTED recommendations and adheres to the Schools Ministry Network Code of Practice. It believes that faith is a real, practical and sensible life choice.

The team has a profile in schools through assemblies and youth events but also works with smaller groups in specific sessions and talks personally about faith issues. The qualified LFIS staff work in three main areas:
· Communication: RE, PHSE, PE lessons and assemblies or 'collective acts of worship'
· Events in and out of school including residential and large youth events like the termly event "The Max"
· Mentoring, a growing area of the work: working with existing learning mentors and other agencies to help remove barriers to learning.
LFIS obtains its funding from various sources but about two thirds comes from churches and individuals in Leeds. Charitable trusts and some schools also contribute towards the work.
