One of the organisations supported by St Chad 's charitable allocations is One City Projects. It is not a charity in itself, but its work of raising awareness both of the needs and of the work being done by charities to combat social deprivation in Leeds is invaluable. One City Projects St Chad 's has recently supported One City Projects by annual grants from charitable allocations, and this invitation to write about our work enables us to express our sincere appreciation. As an ecumenical charity (linked to Leeds Christian Community Trust), One City Projects provides resources and programmes for the churches in Leeds and beyond to explore trends and issues of social justice. Founded on the classic report "Faith in the City" from the mid-1980's, a major focus of our work over the past two years has been local consultations across Leeds on the recent follow-up "Faithful Cities". |
Though much has been achieved over the past twenty years, significant challenges remain in cities such as Leeds, and local leaders have recognised this by making comments such as "conspicuous wealth hides abject poverty in parts of the city" or "one fifth of the population is excluded from its success"! By providing talks, presentations, sermons and programmes, we raise awareness and understanding of underlying issues and the ways in which churches can respond. One City Projects also has an important role in social justice networks across the city. Copies of our latest Newsletter will soon be available in church giving more specific information. Further details can be obtained from the Project Co-ordinator (Nigel Greenwood). |
