Home Groups Home groups are opportunities to get to know people at church; they are also places where you can ask questions. We are all on Journeys with God – and we should help each other as we go. James has a bad press. Martin Luther was very unimpressed with James' emphasis on the practicalities of Christian Living. Even on reading the letter now, it can seem disjointed and challenging: when we expect our Christian walk with God to be easy. On Tuesday evenings in September and October, we will be reading and learning from the Letter of James. We should find out more, about being ‘doers of the word', ‘careful about what we say' and ‘ready to act on behalf of those in need.' And … Do any of these seem at all familiar? “And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” “Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! … See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Or the story of Jonah who was swallowed by a big fish? They are all from the books at the end of the Old Testament … the ‘Minor Prophets', and on Thursdays at 10.00 a.m. , from 17 th September up to Christmas, we will be looking at these 12 books of the Bible, to discover when and why they were written. If you are interested in coming to either group to find out more, Peter Hemming or Mary Henderson will have more details. |
