Home Groups Home groups, for those who have not heard of them, are weekly Bible study groups with a view to nurturing spiritual development. An average meeting of the St Chad's home group involves reading through a passage of the Bible (we are currently studying Mark's Gospel) and discussing, with the aid of a Scripture Union study guide, its meaning and relevance to modern day life. The focus of discussion is essentially the passage in question but leaves room for questions to be asked and often issues raised in sermons to be explored. It is not merely beneficial for the development of Christian understanding but it is also a priceless opportunity to join in a fellowship of believers and deepen friendships. I have been attending St Chad's church since I began my first year studying at Leeds University. It was natural for me to join the home group soon after becoming a regular member of St Chad's as they have played a major part in my Christian life up until this point. Three years ago, a few of my friends and I decided to meet up weekly to read and explore the Bible together. The effect of this group was astonishing and we would often return from it inspired and seriously challenged! I discovered that there is no end to the adventure of spiritual growth and it is something I long to continue in. |
The group at St Chad's is led by Peter Hemming every Tuesday evening at 7.30 pm and is open to people of all ages. It is a chance for your Christian life to grow beyond the normal Sunday service routine; a chance to come to grips with the relevance of scripture and to delve into a deeper understanding of what it means to have a Christian faith. Anyone who is interested in joining the home group is welcome to contact Peter on 2782735. Michael Wallace A second group has now started, meeting on Wednesday afternoons. Anyone interested in becoming part of a Home Group should contact Peter Hemming on 2782735, Mary Henderson on 2757116, or Hilary Larkin on 2782391. Don't worry if you can't manage either Tuesday evening or Wednesday afternoon: a third group could be started if there is enough interest. |
