Back to Church Sunday

The story of Zacchaeus can never be the same again for the congregation on ' Back to Church Sunday ' as they all, young and old, contributed to a large picture of the tree in which Zacchaeus was sitting. Instead of a service beginning at 9.30am in church, we began by meeting in the Parish Centre for coffee and biscuits. There was a good opportunity for old and new, young and old, to meet and talk before we all went 'back to church', after a brief introduction from Barry. He spoke about the prefix ' re ' in relation to church, services and relationships - we were all re -turning to church, but equally experienced, re -demption and re -newal. Like Zacchaeus we could each be re -affirmed and re -assured of God's love for each of us, 'just as we are'.

It was indeed encouraging to see so many people there. Thanks to those who planned the actual liturgy so well, with fewer words to say, there was more opportunity to consider what Jesus' restoration of Zacchaeus could mean to each of us.

A few people had 'come back' by invitation from a friend. It was good to see an increase in attendance on the following Sundays up to Harvest.
