        MINUTES OF THE BRANCH MEETING HELD ON
MONDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER 2009
AT THORPE WOOD POLICE STATION

 

ADOPTION OF STANDING ORDERS
Nigel Wilson welcomed members stating that standing orders would be adopted.


ATTENDANCE
The following members attended the meeting; Nigel Wilson, Mike Croson, Steve Palmer, Steve Bretherton, Doug Skate, Peter Bell, Lynn Law, Nigel Hares and Brian Smith


APOLOGIES
Apologies were received from: Phil Barnes, Rebecca Bretherton, Lawrence Wright and Tom Dobbie,


MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING
The last meeting took place on 3rd August 2009. The minutes of this meeting had previously been circulated. The minutes were proposed as correct by Peter Bell, seconded by Lynn Law and carried.


MATTERS ARISING FROM THE SEPTEMBER MINUTES
Steve B reported that he had still to chase up Peter’s request regarding business cards.


CORRESPONDENCE
Steve B reported that all correspondence received from BSAC had been circulated to members by e-mail. Steve B reviewed a variety of recent correspondence including the 2010 Gimborn seminars, the Suffolk branch BBQ and events advertised on the IPA UK website. Steve B encouraged those members who did not have passwords to the Members section of the web site to contact BSAC for a password.


ACCOUNTS
Steve P circulated account sheets for July/August/September.
There were no questions about the accounts.


REPORTS OF OFFICE HOLDERS
SUPPLIES – Nigel Hares stated that he had bought 20 car windscreen stickers from BSAC at a cost of £1.70 each. It was agreed that the branch would charge £2 per sticker. It was also agreed that Nigel would order 144 of the large Bobby Bears in time to sell before Christmas.

EDITOR – On Rebecca’s behalf Steve B reported that the branch web site had been updated within the last week and that another events e-mail had been drafted and was ready for circulation.

WELFARE – On behalf of members Doug Skate said it was great to see Nigel W and Steve P at the meeting. Lynn gave an update regarding Tom Dobbie and Brian Smith gave an update regarding Jean’s health.


BRANCH TRIPS AND EVENTS
RACE NIGHT – Steve P asked members for money and details of horses that they had sold for the Race Night on 2nd October. Steve stressed that more sales were needed and that ideally 72 horses needed to be sold to cover all the races. Steve also passed out tickets to those intending to attend the event.

NIGHT AT THE DOGS – Nigel W to contact the venue to check out dates and availability.

ALICANTE TRIP – Steve P reported that all the arrangements are in hand for the trip.


MAJOR ITEMS OF BUSINESS
RECRUITING –Steve B will chase Rebecca to place another item on the force Exchange and Mart database. Nigel W to prepare a poster for the notice board at Thorpe Wood Police Station about the 3 months free offer.


PHOTO COMPETITION – Doug reminded members that the deadline for the submission of photos was 30th September. Doug asked that the 2010 calendar be produced in a wider format.


INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP WEEK 2010 - Discussion took place regarding the dates for the event. The week commencing 13th September 2010 was agreed to be suitable.
Mike suggested that the branch could consider applying to Peterborough City Council for a grant to cover some of the cost of the event, given the previous exchange of official council gifts between the towns concerned and the attendance of the mayor at the event in 2008. Mike agreed to pass details on to Steve B.
Steve B informed members that he had approached the ACC , who had agreed to supply two minibuses for the duration of the event.


ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Steve B reminded members about the change of the Sunday lunch venue, which will now be at the Golden Boar at Freckenham at 1pm following the Regional Half Yearly meeting.
Doug Skate informed members that he, Lawrence and Sue and Steve B had recently attended the Drapers Arms and met up with Len Watkins, who was visiting from Canada. Len asked Doug to pass on his best wishes to his friends in the branch and his appreciation to those that attended. Len extends an invitation to any member who may be visiting the Vancouver area.


DATE, TIME AND PLACE OF THE NEXT BRANCH MEETING
Owing to the unavailability of members for the October meeting, the next branch meeting will take place at 7.30pm on Monday 2nd November 2009, at Thorpe Wood Police Station.
