Minutes of the Branch Meeting held on 7th July 2008 at Thorpe Wood Police Station, Peterborough


ADOPTION OF STANDING ORDERS
In the absence of the Chairman Nigel Wilson, Doug Skate welcomed members to the branch meeting and stated that Standing orders would be adopted.


ATTENDANCE
The following members attended the meeting:
Steve Bretherton, Rebecca Bretherton, Doug Skate, Steve Palmer, Nigel Hares, Bob Truss


APOLOGIES
Apologies were received from: Nigel Wilson, Lawrence Wright, Mike Croson, Peter Bell, Tom Dobbie, Brian Smith, Lynn Law.
Nigel Wilson then arrived and took over chairmanship of the meeting


MINUTES OF THE JUNE MEETING
The minutes were circulated prior to the meeting. Proposed as correct by Steve Bretherton seconded Steve Palmer.


MATTERS ARISING FROM THE APRIL MINUTES
There were no matters arising


CORRESPONDENCE

Steve B noted that Nigel Wilson’s details do not appear on the list of branch post holders circulated by BSAC despite the details being sent to them. Steve B to forward Nigel’s details as soon as another consent form is completed.

Steve B read over the following items of correspondence:

Norfolk Branch newsletter
Correspondence from BSAC re the appointment of a Temporary Communications officer.
Correspondence from the Steve Crockard regarding the structure of regions and branches.


ACCOUNTS
The Treasurer informed the meeting about the state of the branch accounts.

Nigel Wilson has now completed the bank mandate. Steve P will arrange a gift for the auditor as agreed.


REPORTS OF OFFICE HOLDERS
SUPPLIES – Nigel Hares updated the meeting regarding the state of branch supplies. Nigel has no more large teddies. Steve B has some remaining and will check his stock before any more are ordered.
Nigel W will continue to try and arrange for the production of wooden plaques.
Bob Truss asked about name badges. Steve B to send one through to Bob.

EDITOR – Rebecca gave her apologies for advertising the Photo Competition on the force Exchange and Mart database


BRANCH TRIPS AND EVENTS
FUTURE SUNDAY LUNCH VENUES JULY TO SEPTEMBER

There will be no Sunday Lunch in August
28th September 2008 - The Bistro at Whittlesey
26th October 2008 – The Bluebell at Glinton

Nigel reported that the trip to St Georges Distillery near Thetford and the Sunday lunch at the Angel P.H at Larling were both excellent. Steve B noted that the pub would make an excellent venue for a Regional meeting. Steve B thanked Nigel W for arranging the trip.

PHOTO COMPETITION 2008/2009 – An E-Mail was sent out during June to remind members that the closing date for entries is September 2008.

TRIP TO THE POWER SIGNALLING CENTRE AT PETERBOROUGH – Steve B informed the meeting that Lawrence was no longer available for the trip on 14th August and the alternative date of 21st August was agreed. Steve B to confirm with Lawrence.

BEER FESTIVAL – Steve B reminded members that they are invited to get together at the Peterborough Beer Festival on Wednesday 20th August. Steve B to circulate a reminder e-mail.


MAJOR ITEMS OF BUSINESS

TRIP TO COLOGNE CARNIVAL FEBRUARY 2009 – Steve B reported that he had sent an e-mail to Doug Finbow on 29th June making him aware of the level of interest in this trip from Cambs branch members and asking for any more information about the trip to pass on to members

BRANCH TRIP 2009 – Steve and Rebecca B updated members regarding the possibility of the branch trip to Italy next year that Fabio is not in a position to arrange a trip at this time. Steve B then updated members regarding the proposed trip to Spain. Roger Bates has proposed dates of 26-30th October with a limit of 14 people due to transport restrictions. Steve B confirmed that he had sent off a group travel form to BSAC requesting that it be forwarded via the Spanish IPA section to the Valencia Branch.

INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP WEEK 2010 – Steve B informed the meeting that the British Section will be celebrating its 60th year and to celebrate he would like the Cambridgeshire branch to hold a friendship week.

RECRUITING – Steve B referred back to the motion that he brought before the previous meeting and that was agreed that during July, August and September the branch offer of six months membership for £2.50. There followed a discussion about recruiting. Nigel Wilson agreed to contact Chris Couzens regarding input to the PDU at Thorpe Wood. Steve B will do the same with Iain Carter re the PDU at March P.S. Steve B to arrange a new supply of pack covers and to source recruiting CDs. Rebecca B to advertise this offer on Exchange and Mart. Nigel Wilson to arrange a recruiting poster.


ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Doug Skate volunteered his services as the branch welfare officer. This was discussed, proposed by Steve B, seconded by Steve P and agreed.
