Jockey rapper team to tour Harborne
pubs - see calendar for
details
What
a busy weekend we've recently had with our very good friends - de Wouwe of
Meerbeke, near Brussels in Flanders. After being met at The Coach
Horses, Weatheroak on Thursday evening our guests were taken to the
adjoining homes of two Jockey members for an informal reception and
to meet their hosts.
Friday morning saw free time in the city
centre and a spot of dancing in Chamberlain Square. After lunch,
taken at The Wellington, more dancing at Birmingham Cathedral and
Birmingham Botanical Gardens. The day was wrapped up with a joint
Jockey/de Wouwe beer and skittles competition at The Walsall
Arms.
Because our guests could only stay until Sunday we
moved our traditional 'Whit Tour' of The Cotswolds by coach to
Saturday. de Wouwe were introduced to the delights of Moreton, Stow,
The Fleece at Bretforton (another pub!) and Stratford. We concluded
with an evening meal, dancing and songs in a church hall
close to where most of de Wouwe were lodging.
Sadly our
friends took their leave of us on Sunday morning, but it won't be
long before we see them again when we visit our other Flemish
friends, de Rollewagen, for Parkfeesten at the end of
June.

The Jockey Morris Men have
been active in Birmingham since their formation in 1949. They have
performed all over the country and have been proud to represent
morris dancing and the City of Birmingham in places as far flung as
Warwickshire, France, Flanders, Holland and Germany.
Marvellous!
