History
The club was formed in 1976, under the Chairpersonship of Trudi Joyce and was
affiliated to the Durham County Womens Hockey Association (DCWHA) in the same year.
The chosen strip at that time of red and black is still used to this day, and the team
played on the red ash pitch at the Sports Centre. This newly formed team were expertly
run on what was a very tight budget.
Until 1978, the Ladies and Mens hockey clubs in Stockton were independent. In 1978 the
two clubs joined forces, and through the Mens hockey club became a sub-section of
Stockton Cricket Club.
Junior hockey was encouraged from the start and still continues to this day.
By 1986 the club had 47 members under Jen King. Coaching sessions were initiated, and the
club introduced indoor hockey.
In 1986, the club got to the finals of the Knockout Cup, and in 1987 built on that success
by entering the league and achieving promotion from Division 3.
1989 saw 6 players named to the county squad, and this experience led Stockton to victory
in a tournament for the first time. Starting in 1989, the Under 19 team won
their league 10 seasons running.
In 1992/93, the Under 18s won the All England finals, and the following season saw success
in Under 18 and Under 21 leagues and more honours.
In 2000, the club lost a number of it's younger players to Higher Education, so decided
to reduce the number of teams playing in the Saturday league from 2 to 1.
The 2000/2001 saw the club reach the final of the knockout cup,
losing out 2-1 to local rivals Norton in the final.
The 2003/04 season saw a run of good results for the indoor team, reaching the final of the cup,
losing to Norton.
The 2004 season saw Stockton move to a new home venue, Egglescliffe School's new pitch replacing
the Tilery as the location for training sessions and matches. Junior coaching sessions, separate from the
senior training sessions were introduced in conjunction with Tees Valley Sport, and an Under 15 girls team
entered into the North East Youth Hockey League.
