1st at the Leamington Open
|
The Cubbington Silver Band had another success at the Leamington Open Competition held on Sunday 22nd November. Playing in the 3rd Section we achieved a 1st place as well as our solo euphonium player, Neil Kelsall, winning the Best Musician Trophy. The band played against seven other 3rd Section bands who gave us some stiff competition. In the end, our performance of Goff Richards 'Oceans' placed us a clear first, two points clear of second place. Obviously the band are over the moon with the result and a big thanks again go to Gary Smallwood, our conductor, who helped us achieve the win. We now have another trophy and shield to add to our collection! |
National Finals Win
|
Following on from our success at the Area Finals, the Cubbington Silver Band entered the National Finals at Harrogate. Much to our delight, we came 3rd! This is a great result and obviously everyone in the band is very pleased. The test piece this year was Oceans composed by Goff Richards, a piece the band enjoy playing. Our conductor at the Finals was Gary Smallwood, and a big thanks go to Gary for his time and expertise in getting this result for the band. The two adjudicators were Dr. Childs and Ray Farr, so we were pleased with the judgement from tow eminent musicians, even if they thought we were a bit on the loud side! We thought we were just being confident! We will now be practising for the 2010 Area Finals playing Labour and Love. |

The Cubbington Silver Band won the 3rd Section Midland Area Finals at Bedworth on Saturday 14th March. With a clear 1st, we have an invitation to the National Finals at Harrogate in September.
This years test piece was The Once and Future King by Andrew Baker. Based on the BBC TV Series and the Arthurian Saga, it is a piece the band very much enjoyed playing. As one can imagine, the band are over the moon at such a win and promotion. Our thanks go to all our supporters for helping us in this achievement. |
Success Again, at The Leamington Open
|
The Leamington Open Competition is one of the last competitions of the season and being local to us, we always like to enter. This year we played Roman Triptych by Leigh Baker, the 2007 National Final 4th Section test piece and a very interesting piece of music. The Band competed against six others in the section and were delighted at achieving 2nd place, just one point behind the winners, Amington. We look forward to building on our success in future competitions. |

Wychavon Success!
|
The annual Wychavon Festival of Brass competition was held again in Evesham on Sunday 16th September. Once again, the Cubbington Silver Band entered the competition with this years theme being film scores of John Williams. Four pieces were chosen for our twenty minute programme starting off with Raiders of the Lost Ark, Born on the 4th July, Concert March from 1941 and finishing with Superman. The band were delighted at coming 1st in the Fourth Section and even more so to win the Best Percussion Trophy. We are all delighted at continuing our winning streak. As reported earlier, the Cubbington Silver Band will be promoted to the Third Section next year following our outright win at the Area Finals. As such, we were allowed to enter the Third Section at Wychavon. Playing the same programme, but several hours later, we are delighted to report that we achieved 4th place out of seven entered bands. We are looking forward to competing in the 3rd Section in the future and hope to achieve similar success to that of the 4th Section. |

Competing against twenty two other bands in a day long event, the band were absolutely delighted to hear the announcement at the end of the competition that we had come first! This years test piece was The Seasons by Philip Wilby. The band scored the maximum of 180 points!
