Biography for Steve Ralph

Steve was born in Sheffield on 15 July 1952 but soon moved to Chesterfield when his father became Consultant Radiologist at the Royal Hospital there.

He was privately educated with his final school being Denstone School near Uttoxeter. It was from here when he went to Manchester University.

Steve was introduced to skiing and climbing at school before he went to Manchester but that his parents where certainly not involved in influencing those activities which he took an interest in, especially climbing.

Later, his outdoor antics led him to being involved in a Himlayan expedition, a full description of that which is included in Joe Simpsons book, 'This Game Of Ghosts', (page 234, the silk road). On the opposite page, 139, is a photo of a clean shaven short haired Steve. The well known climber Richard Haszko also took part in this expedition, and was the man who spoke at Steve's funeral, revealing Steve's nickname of Jungle.

Thanks to Steve's Uncle, Maurice Ralph, for this contribution.
