If you are intending to visit the Wash as a day ticket holder, prospective member or casual visitor, then you must be aware of the potential dangers. Treated with respect, the Wash is as safe as any other estuary. However, being such a large, flat area the tides race in very quickly and usually fill the creeks behind you first! A good piece of advice is that if a tide is running, and you are not confident of its' potential, STAY ON THE SEA BANK! There is no real criteria where we can say a certain height is safe. Wind and other adverse conditions can push a tide up a long way and make it peak a few hours early.The only sure advice is to contact an existing member who can make your trip safe and enjoyable.
