A Profile of New Milton

New Milton is a busy town located on the edge of the forest and close to the coast. It is one of the most rapidly expanding towns in the south of England and currently has a population of approx. 23,500. Rapid residential development has placed considerable pressure upon the town's amenities.

The history of the area can be traced back to the Domesday book published in 1086. Over the years the villages of Milton, Ashley and Barton-On-Sea have expanded until they merged to form the current-day New Milton.

Bashley village, located to the north of the town and located within the New Forest Heritage Area and consequently has avoided residential development pressures.

Barton-On-Sea which boasts a scenic stretch of coastal scenery from Milford-On-Sea to Hurst Castle and the Isle of Wight, has seen dramatic changes to its seafront due to considerable cliff erosion.
