Mission Action Plan 2002-2007

The mission statement of our Church:

To demonstrate the presence of Christ in worship, outreach

and through our life together

The initial action plan was written in 1996. It has been revisited on several occasions and much of the plan has been fulfilled. Now we are in a new phase in the life of St Mary's and a new mission plan taking into consideration the recent London Challenge document. This mission action plan is the strategic tool which we use to support our mission statement and reflect on and review our work. It comes under six headings:

1. Worship

To encourage each Church member in his or her worship in daily life; to encourage people to use their gifts and talents in service to God and the community.

2. Outreach

To demonstrate our faith by reaching out with warmth and friendship to those in the community; to develop an awareness of our responsibilities as part of the Church to the people in the community and the world.

3. Pastoral care

To maintain our pastoral links to the whole parish and not just the congregation.

4. Nurture

To provide opportunities for the development of discipleship which are vital for Christian survival on our faith journey.

5. Children's Work

To enable children to participate in the life and worship of the Church community.

6. Environment

To provide for the long term existence of St Mary’s as a place for worship by restoring and maintaining the church building.
