Parish Records

Baptism Entries - These include the child's full name and the first names of the parents, the date of the baptism and the vicars name.
They do not give the date of birth though, some children may not have been christened the same year they were born. The year they where born can often be checked against the census records.

Marriage Entries - The older marriage entries do not contain as much information as the newer one's. The older records give the date of marriage, name of the people marrying, two witnesses and the vicars name.  The newer records also give the above information but they have additional information on the fathers name and occupation as well as the age, occupation and marital status of the people getting married.

Burial Entries - These have the name, age and date of burial for the deceased. It can be hard to tell the difference between people with common names for example their are four William Stone's in the burial records for St Leonard's. You also need to remember women who married will be buried under their married names.

Census's Records

Census's have been taken every ten years starting with 1841. They are not available to the public until they are 100 years old however. This means the most recent one available is from 1891.

Censuses have information about who was where on the day it was taken. They give the full name, age, relationship to the head of the house, marriage condition, occupation and place of birth.

1881 Census - this census has been put on to CD-Rom, by the Latter-day saints. If you would like me to look up someone in this census please contact me.

1901 Census - the Public Record Office are transcribing this and hopefully will have it online for January 2002.

Birth Certificates - these were made compulsory in 1836. They contain when and where born, name, sex, name of father, name of mother, rank or profession of father, description of informant, date registered and district registered in. An example can be found on the Borissow Records page.

Marriage Certificates -

Death Certificates - contain the following information, registration district, when and where died, name, sex, age, occupation, cause of death, name and address of informant and when registered. An example can be found on the Borissow Records page.
