Worm cast is the end result of a natural composting process. Beginning with natural bacteria and fungi breaking down compostable material. This causes heat which pasturizes the material by taking it above 65C for over 2 days. This kills harmful bacteria and seeds. The material is then placed into worm bins. The worms break the material down into a fine powder, this is the worm cast. It is harvested after about 10 weeks in the worm bins. To use the worm cast you can simply use it as fertilizer and added to the surface or soil or compost around plants, mixed with peat substitutes or leaf mould at the rate of 1 part worm cast to 5 parts bulk to make up potting compost.
