HAROLD'S STONES, TRELLECH

Harold's Stones OS Map

OS ref

Three standing stones, all tilting at varying angles and of differing heights. The stone is a coarse pudding stone.

The largest stone (at the far end in this shot) is about 13 foot high, the others taper down to about 11 foot and 7 foot.

It is unknown whether they were once part of an alignment or even a large circle.

The village in which they now stand gained its name from the stones and unbelievably was, at one time, a city!

The centre stone has two large but indistinct cup marks. In this photograph they have been artificially darkened to highlight them.

The stones are also depicted on a sundial within the church.
